Northrop Grumman, Space Systems, is currently seeking a Manufacturing Technician to join our Case Value Stream Operations team. This position will support the Propulsion Systems Division at our Clearfield Freeport Center with the anticipation of transferring to our Copper Crossing Value Stream location in Salt Lake City once opened in late 2024-early 2025.

Role description & Responsibilities:

A Manufacturing Technician performs hands-on activities associated with the manufacturing of composite rocket cases. Tasks may include but are not limited to tooling assembly/disassembly, case surface preparation, winding composite equipment operation, maintaining cleanliness of the work area, and other duties as assigned by the supervisor. Candidates must participate as a team member to positively influence safety, quality, cost, and schedule.

This is a weekday, day shift position. Overtime may be required.

Requirements:

  1. Must be willing to perform shift work and overtime, including weekends and holidays.
  2. Must possess a valid state driver’s license.
  3. Required to perform safe handling of hazardous waste materials for disposal.
  4. Ability to understand and apply stringent procedures to assigned duties.
  5. Safe handling of equipment and materials in a manufacturing environment.
  6. Operating industrial equipment such as bridge cranes, forklifts, precision measuring instruments, and hand tools.
  7. Ability to read blueprints.
  8. Able to monitor and verify quality in accordance with statistical process control and design specifications.

Skills & Qualifications:

  1. Able to work a physically demanding day (stand for long periods; work from your knees; ascend and descend ladders; lift, bend, twist, push and pull up to 50 lbs.) while wearing protective equipment.
  2. Able to read, comprehend and follow established written instructions without deviation.
  3. Perform basic math and measurement functions.

Basic Qualifications:

This position can be filled at either a level 2 or level 3.

Basic Qualifications for a Level 2:

  1. High School Diploma or GED.
  2. 2 years of related composite or mechanical work experience.
  3. Ability to weigh material for the mixing process.
  4. Ability to work with resins and carbon fiber.
  5. Ability to work with chemical cleaning processes such as an industrial degreaser.
  6. Ability to work with aluminum oxide cloth.

Basic Qualifications for a Level 3:

  1. High School Diploma or GED.
  2. 4 years of related composite or mechanical work experience.
  3. Ability to start and end helicals and hoops in the carbon winding process, following planning requirements.
  4. Able to continuously monitor machinery to ensure winding is completed according to established planning and procedures.

Preferred Qualifications:

Prefer Associates degree or Technical Certificate related to composite material.

Salary Range: $43,100 - $71,900

Salary Range 2: $51,200 - $85,400

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers.

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results.
