Overview

Mori is a fast‑paced anti‑food waste Series C startup on a mission to create “More Food, Less Waste” by transforming the food, agriculture, and packaging industries. Leveraging a naturally derived silk protein, Mori creates an all‑natural food ingredient and coating that slows down the spoiling process of perishable foods, reducing reliance on plastic packaging, cutting food and packaging waste, and increasing supply‑chain efficiency.

About the Role

Mori is seeking a motivated and hardworking Manufacturing Technician to join our Engineering team and work in our groundbreaking Pilot Plant. You will contribute meaningfully to Mori Manufacturing and become a valued member of a mission‑critical team. You will support the Pilot Plant manufacturing operations, operating equipment to produce Mori products while ensuring proper maintenance, sanitation, and quality control.

  • Location: Hood Park, Charlestown, MA
  • Schedule: Monday – Friday, 1st shift (6 AM‑3 PM) or 2nd shift (3 PM‑12 AM) – both available
  • On‑site requirement: 5 days a week
  • 1st shift salary: $55,000‑$65,000 annually
  • 2nd shift salary: $61,600‑$72,800 annually (includes 12% shift differential)
  • Note: Mori cannot offer visa sponsorship for this role at this time.
What You Will Do
  • Operate pilot‑plant equipment including maintenance, cleaning, and sanitation.
  • Perform pre‑operation and end‑of‑shift activities to ensure proper start‑up and operation of multiple pieces of equipment.
  • Carry out protein extraction, purification, and drying following established SOPs.
  • Contribute to bench‑scale R&D runs for new process and material development, on occasion.
  • Perform daily quality and environmental sampling, monitoring, and testing.
  • Engage in intellectual work that requires consistent exercise of discretion and judgment.
  • Communicate observations, results, recommendations, safety hazards, and issues to the team.
  • Maintain a safe work environment and participate in Mori’s safety culture.
  • Maintain production paperwork, files, and databases.
  • Follow all plant GMPs, food safety protocols, and production procedures.
  • Adapt to evolving business needs and support additional tasks as required.

What You Will Bring
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, biology, biotechnology, chemical engineering, bioengineering, or a similar field; OR Associate’s degree with 1+ year relevant experience; OR 2–3+ years relevant experience.
  • Ability to work well independently and on a team.
  • Exceptional organizational, communication, and team‑building skills.
  • Flexibility to shift work hours to support the team when needed.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds, with or without assistance.
  • Ability to stand, walk, climb stairs, bend, kneel, and crouch repeatedly throughout the shift, with or without assistance.

Bonus points if you have:

  • Experience with basic engineering unit operations – stirred tanks, purification, filtration equipment, and drying.
  • cGMP compliant process experience in pharma or food.
