Job summary

Steel Tool & Engineering in Trenton, MI seeks a Manufacturing Team Coordinator for metal fabrication and machining. This full-time, hourly role runs 6:00am–4:30pm, focusing on safety, quality, and daily leadership.

You will plan shifts, align staffing, coach operators, and monitor output and downtime. The role drives continuous improvement via Kaizen and SMART goals. Prior lead-operator experience and lean familiarity are strongly preferred.

Qualifications

• 2+ years in manufacturing leadership roles.
• Familiarity with 5S and standard work lean practices.
• Ability to lift 40 lbs and work on a shop floor.
• Basic production reporting via ERP and email.

Responsibilities

• Plan daily workloads: staffing, machine readiness, materials and tooling.
• Lead start-of-shift huddles and assign stations; set priorities.
• Coach and train operators; ensure adherence to standard work.
• Track hourly output, scrap, downtime, and quality metrics.
• Resolve minor issues and escalate major concerns to Quality, Maintenance and Supervisors.
• Communicate across functions; ensure safety, PPE compliance, and policy adherence.
• Document results and hand off open items to the next shift.

You confirm machines are ready, materials and tooling are staged, and staffing is aligned. In a crisp huddle, you set the tone—prioritizing safety and PPE, clarifying production goals, and highlighting quality checkpoints. Throughout the day, you guide the team using our 3‑Step Daily Leadership Process, ensuring standard work is followed and problems are surfaced early.When a minor issue pops up—say a 5S lapse or a documentation gap—you correct it fast. When the stakes are higher—safety risks, customer-impacting defects, equipment failures, environmental concerns—you escalate decisively and coordinate with Quality, Maintenance, and Supervisors. You measure what matters: hourly output, scrap, downtime, and quality performance. At day’s end, you record results versus targets and hand off open items to the next shift or supervisor.
