Who we are looking for:

We are currently looking for a Manufacturing Supervisor to be based out of Harvey, Illinois. Reporting to the Value Stream Manager, this person will be responsible for supervising employees with an emphasis on teamwork, continuous improvement, auditing product and processes to ensure conformance to specifications, directing set-up and adjustments of machines, assuring compliance of company policies and safety regulations with employees, with a safety-first approach.

The ideal candidate will have at least 5 years of previous supervisory experience in the steel manufacturing or metals industry. Experience in lean manufacturing management or business system-based company within a union environment is preferred.

What you’ll do:

  • Demonstrate operational team leadership, resulting in successful lean implementation, productivity gains, and a reduction in operating costs, inventories, and lead times.
  • Cultivate a culture of continuous improvement through cross-functional leadership and help drive the company to become a learning organization while ensuring compliance with all safety requirements.
  • Lead a team through daily operations and continuous improvements providing for product flow, utilizing pull systems where flow is not currently possible, working to level the overall workload.
  • Audit product and processes for conformity of specifications, directing set-up and adjustments of machines to identify problems and challenges while implementing countermeasures and solutions, including root cause analysis.
  • Instill and maintain a positive “can-do” team atmosphere within the value stream by assigning tasks to team members, empowering team member decision-making, and coordinating support services.
  • Maintain the KPI and SQDC/LDM boards to ensure problems and challenges have visibility, while assessing performance, attendance management, professional development, etc.
  • Partner with Safety and/or HR to investigate, resolve and provide corrective measures for accidents, injuries, production and personnel issues.
  • Ensure the team honors our Atkore core values of Accountability, Teamwork, Integrity, Respect, and Excellence in all aspects of their daily work, while ensuring compliance of company policies and safety regulations with all employees.

What you’ll bring:

  • Experience in leading strategic teams, including but not limited to: Troubleshooting equipment situations and taking corrective actions, lean manufacturing/distribution management, analyzing reports and performance metrics, and reporting out of all metrics cross-functionally.
  • Demonstrated strong team/people building skills resulting in strategic and tactical goal attainment in a lean environment, within a union environment.
  • Technical background in maintenance, industrial or manufacturing engineering.
  • Excellent communication and people skills within all levels of the organization.
  • Advanced proficiency in MS Office with AS400 and/or JDE experience a plus.

Within 3 months, you’ll:

  • Complete your Atkore immersion program
  • Understand how your job will help deliver Atkore’s strategy
  • Gain an understanding of your team

Within 6 months, you’ll:

  • Be familiar with mill processes
  • Understand the responsibilities of the value stream and day-to-day operations
  • Be responsible for your teams, assisting with opportunities and implementation

Within 12 months, you’ll:

  • Provide leadership resulting in successful lean implementation
  • Own the mill shift productivity from start to finish
  • Cultivate the culture of continuous improvement leading cross-functional teams
