Job Title: Manufacturing Specialist
We are currently seeking candidates for a Manufacturing Specialist with experience in the insurance, loss control, and safety industry. This person will support our Michigan underwriting operations within the Risk Consulting Department, serving as an integral part of our value-added services for commercial insurance policyholders. The position reports to the Michigan Risk Consulting Branch Manager and supports our Michigan territory, with periodic travel outside the state. Occasional regional travel is required, with overnight stays 2-3 nights per month. This is a "work from home" position outside of local and regional client engagements.
Primary Responsibilities
- Provide understanding of clients' operations to our underwriting team.
- Advise clients on best practices related to their operations and programs, including property evaluations, new construction projects, sprinkler plan reviews, and developing internal guidelines.
- Assist clients in identifying hazards and recommend improvements.
- Discuss and promote Chubb's risk consulting services to meet client needs and improve loss ratios.
- Conduct on-site visits, complete hazard and control evaluations, and prepare comprehensive reports to support risk selection, pricing, and underwriting techniques for profitable growth.
- Manage scheduling of client visits, correspondence, report completion, and follow-up on recommendations.
- Coordinate with claims and underwriting teams to ensure excellent service, risk selection, and client retention.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Safety & Health, or related field, or relevant work experience.
- Relevant professional designations (e.g., ASP, CSP, PE, ARM) are desirable but not mandatory.
- 8+ years of experience in property insurance risk management and loss prevention.
- Deep knowledge of manufacturing industry practices, including underwriting, regulations, emerging technologies, exposures, litigation, loss history, and risk assessment.
- Advanced proficiency in analyzing manufacturing exposures and controls across lines of business.
- Experience in counseling and presenting to clients on risk control topics.
- Experience with large customers across industries such as industrial, food processing, life sciences, ethanol, biodiesel, warehousing, and power generation.
- Training and mentoring experience for new consultants and performing NAT/CAT reviews for wind, hail, flood, earthquake, and wildfire.
- Effective communication skills for technical information to diverse audiences.
- Initiative, time management, and ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Adobe Acrobat; knowledge of Excel and PowerPoint is preferred.
