Job description

Essential Functions:
  1. Sets up machines in accordance with job prints and specifications to very close tolerances.
  2. Produces basic precision items beyond the capabilities of production machine operators.
  3. Machine parts to specifications using machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, shapers, or grinders.
  4. Measures, examines, and tests completed units in order to detect defects and ensure conformance to specifications; utilizes precision instruments including but not limited to micrometers, calipers, bore gauge, depth micrometer, and other inspection equipment as needed.
  5. Sets up, adjusts, and operates all of the basic machine tools and many specialized or advanced variation tools in order to perform precision machining operations.
  6. Aligns and secures holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials onto machines.
  7. Monitors the feed and speed of machines during the machining process.
  8. Studies sample parts, blueprints, drawings, and engineering information in order to determine methods and sequences of operations needed to fabricate products, and determine product dimensions and tolerances.
  9. Selects the appropriate tools, machines, and materials to be used in preparation of machinery work.
  10. Lays out, measures, and marks metal stock in order to display placement of cuts.
  11. Observes and listens to operating machines or equipment in order to diagnose machine malfunctions and to determine need for adjustments or repairs.
  12. Operates all common machine shop equipment and hand tools skillfully.
  13. Works from prints or drawings to produce a variety of items.
  14. Follows all safety rules regarding machine operation and proper guarding.
  15. Follows all lock-out/tag-out procedures when machines must be shut down for repairs.
  16. Performs other duties as assigned by management.
Education and Experience:
  1. Graduate of technical school, full apprenticeship program, or completion of in-company four-year training program to satisfaction of plant training committee, preferred.
  2. Minimum five (5) years set-up experience as a machinist.

Pay Range: $23.00/hr to $25.00/hr
