Boeing in St. Louis is seeking a Materials and Process Technology professional to support coating application, surface prep robotics, production equipment, and paint process development across defense and weapons programs.

Materials and Process Technology (M&PT)

This position reports to the St. Louis MR&D team within the Materials and Process Technology organization. The MR&D group supports Defense and Weapons production and development programs within the St. Louis site, leading advanced manufacturing technology insertion and integration into the production system.

Position Responsibilities

• Provides support to St. Louis BDS (Boeing Defense, Space and Security) production programs and development projects in the areas of coating application/surface preparation robotics/automation, production equipment, paint process development, and paint prep/application/removal technologies
• Supports operations across paint operations in support of multiple production and development aircraft and weapons programs
• Applies knowledge of engineering and scientific principles to aircraft design efforts, production operations improvements, development and implementation of a wide range of technologies, and aircraft assembly cost reduction efforts
• Reviews engineering documents, drawings, and supports design reviews to ensure proper selection and specification of equipment and processes for paint fabrication and assembly operations
• Evaluates novel technologies for potential application to business needs
• Performs assessments on technologies proposed and/or procured for production
• Works directly with engineering, manufacturing and suppliers to perform manufacturing process improvements and implementation of robotics, automation, and manufacturing technologies to achieve cost reductions
• Coordinates with supplier management for purchase of production equipment, including high value capital equipment
• Uses project management tools to meet cost, technical, and schedule requirements
• Resolves programmatic and technical problems that would affect cost, schedule, and performance
• Supports root cause and corrective action reviews by conducting engineering investigations for fabrication and/or assembly issues

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills & Experience)

• Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry.
• 3+ years of industry experience in aerospace or large-scale manufacturing

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills & Experience)

• Automation experience
• Working with production and other engineering teams

Typical Education/Experience

Level 3 Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), computer science, engineering data science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 5 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience or non-US equivalent qualifications.
