Lexington Mfg Inc. invites a Manufacturing Quality Engineer Intern for Summer 2027. The role is on-site in Coon Rapids, MN, part-time, four days a week, starting Summer 2027.

You will own projects on inspection and quality processes, drive continuous improvement, and help modernize documentation using digital tools, collaborating with operators and engineers. The internship targets students pursuing Mech/Industrial Engineering with strong analytical skills and an interest in manufacturing

Qualifications

• Pursuing Mechanical Engineering or Industrial Engineering degree.
• Completed at least 1 year of college coursework.
• Interest in manufacturing, quality, and continuous improvement.
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
• Comfortable working independently and on the shop floor.
• Bonus: strong writing skills or interest in improving documentation (using digital tools or AI).

Responsibilities

• Own projects on inspection and quality processes across manufacturing centers.
• Identify and eliminate inspection-related waste; validate and improve process effectiveness.
• Recommend practical upgrades to inspection capabilities and support CIF projects.
• Lead a few improvement projects from start to finish.

The role is intended to start in Summer 2027

Work Location: This role has an on-site working model, with the employee working four (4) days a week in the office, located in Coon Rapids, MN.

What You’ll Work On

This isn’t a “watch and learn” internship—you’ll own projects and see them through.

You’ll focus on improving inspection and quality processes across key manufacturing work centers, including:

Optimize Inspection Requirements

Identify and eliminate inspection-related waste

• Evaluate current inspection methods, notes, and capabilities
• Conduct studies to validate and improve process effectiveness

Drive Process Improvement

• Recommend practical upgrades to inspection capabilities
• Support Lean initiatives and Continuous Improvement (CIF) projects
• Select and lead a few improvement projects from start to finish

Simplify & Improve Documentation

• Audit and streamline ~500 controlled documents (Work Instructions/JIs)
• Reduce duplication and consolidate overlapping content
• Use tools (including AI, if you’re savvy!) to modernize documentation
• Work directly with operators, engineers, and quality teams
• See how your ideas translate into real-world improvements
