Job description

The Manufacturing/Quality Engineer supports the manufacturing plant in developing manufacturing processes and quality plans to ensure safety, quality, cost and efficiency requirements are met. This position troubleshoots problems with production and takes corrective action, as well as identifies and leads the implementation of manufacturing process and quality system improvements. Significant activities include implementing setup reductions, standardizing procedures, implementing automation projects, eliminating causes of quality issues, and working with Engineering on new product introductions. Responsible for satisfying customers by meeting specifications and delivery requirements while pursuing continual improvement and the achievement of established company goals.

Responsibilities

  1. Support day-to-day operations by assisting in troubleshooting and setup of machinery as needed.
  2. Work with customers to resolve quality issues.
  3. Support and participate in Advance Product Quality Planning (APQP), New Product Development (NPD), and Engineering Change Requests (ECN).
  4. Establish and document quality standards for individual products and create Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) documents.
  5. Create process documentation, setup procedures, operating instructions, quality plans, and provide training to affected personnel. Participate in building and maintaining the process routers of products.
  6. Champion productivity improvements such as production rate improvements, setup reduction, elimination of material handling, specific automation enhancements, and other areas as defined.
  7. Manage Capital Expenditure (CAPEX) and continuous improvement projects.
  8. Manage and execute the activities associated with the corrective action system, including supplier corrective actions, as well as managing internal audits. Maintain and organize files.
  9. Facilitate and promote use of appropriate problem-solving techniques for effective root cause analysis and successful corrective actions.
  10. Perform internal ISO audits and help maintain and improve the Quality Management System.
  11. Participate in customer visits and job estimating.
  12. Assist with 5S, preventive maintenance, factory layouts and moves.
  13. Provide customers with certifications and regulatory documents such as Reach/Rohs, Prop 65, NAFTA, CMRT and other documents as requested.
  14. Work with external suppliers to provide specs, drawings, obtain quotes, and create purchase orders to manufacture production components or parts.
  15. Help conduct supplier assessments, selection, development, and troubleshoot quality issues with suppliers.
  16. Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities.

Qualifications

  • Ability and knowledge relevant to ERP Systems and Microsoft Office (Excel & Word) and Outlook, including the use of pivot tables in Excel. CAD/CAM and CNC programming experience a plus.
  • A bachelor’s degree in engineering is preferred, but significant operations experience may be considered in lieu of a formal degree. The ability to operate in a technically oriented environment and interface comfortably with engineering personnel is a critical prerequisite.
  • Three years of manufacturing experience in the contract manufacturing environment of metal components is desired.
