Job summary

Steffes Corporation is seeking a Quality Engineer to lead quality assurance and control initiatives in a manufacturing environment. You will coordinate projects from definition to reporting and support customer drawings, tolerances, and specifications.

The role involves conducting inspections (ISIRs/PPAPs), writing reports, and performing root-cause analysis with corrective actions. Travel to Steffes facilities may be required; strong communication and teamwork are essential.

Qualifications

  • BS in engineering or equivalent required; Mechanical, Industrial, or Manufacturing Engineering preferred.
  • 1+ years of related work experience in manufacturing/industrial environment.
  • Strong computer skills: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook.
  • 2D/3D CAD experience (AutoCAD, Creo, SolidWorks).
  • Advanced math skills and strong written/spoken communication.

Responsibilities

  • Lead quality assurance/control/improvement projects with scope from definition to reporting.
  • Review drawings, tolerances, specifications; communicate findings.
  • Develop and maintain production acceptance criteria.
  • Perform inspections and back up Quality Technicians as needed.
  • Create inspection reports (ISIRs, PPAPs).
  • Lead root-cause analysis and implement corrective actions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Leads projects related to quality assurance, quality control, and/or quality improvement including project definition, selection, implementation, and reporting. Provides advice, compiles data, reviews trends, and estimates costs and results of improvement projects.
  • Reads, understands, and communicates information pertaining to customer drawings, tolerances, specifications, etc.
  • Develop and maintain production acceptance criteria.
  • Conducts in-process, final, and receiving inspections as required. Acts as a back-up to the facility Quality Technician(s).
  • Creates and documents inspection reports; including Initial Sample Inspection Reports (ISIRs) and Production Part Acceptance Process (PPAPs).
  • Facilitate root cause analysis with key stakeholders and implement corrective actions in response to nonconformance reports.
  • Develop internal systems and tools to promote and monitor quality excellence for the products produced at the facility.
  • Create framework for calibration requirements of tools and devices which includes determining the appropriate intervals for verifications.
  • Advise on fixture design through dimensional verification.
  • Create and deliver quality communications and/or trainings.
  • Participate in new product introduction, sales reviews, and/or similar processes as a representative of the Quality Team.
  • Participate in customer, internal, and/or external quality audits.
  • Effectively and professionally communicate cross-functionally in the organization as relating to product and process conformity.
  • Gains knowledge of ISO 9001, API Q1, and any other inputs required to achieve and sustain these certifications.
  • Maintain a positive work atmosphere by acting and communicating in collaborative manner with customers, suppliers, co-workers, and management.
  • Helps company meet its Strategic, Quality and Safety objectives.
  • Other duties may be assigned.

Job Requirements/Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science degree in engineering discipline or equivalent, and/or years of experience. Mechanical, Industrial, or Manufacturing Engineering preferred.
  • 1+ years of related work experience preferably in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
  • Intermediate computer knowledge - Microsoft Word – Advanced; Microsoft Excel – Advanced; Microsoft PowerPoint – Intermediate; Microsoft Outlook – Basic
  • Intermediate 2D (AutoCAD) and/or 3D CAD (PTC Creo, Solidworks) experience, preferred.
  • Advanced math skills.
  • Communication skills (Develop written communications requiring grammar skills; interact with customers or suppliers on an explanatory basis; interact with groups of people and co-workers; use of telephones, public address system, and oral communication).
  • Spelling and reading skills (Basic instructional and technical information)
  • Self-driven, flexible/adaptable, and able to effectively manage time, priorities, and resources.
  • Willing to travel to other Steffes facilities, customers, or supplies, as required by business needs.

Physical Demands of Position
  • This position requires walking, sitting, or standing to a significant degree
  • Must have the ability to lift 70 pounds from floor to waist, carry 50 pounds, and push and/or pull up to 100 pounds
  • Must have the abilityto climb ladders and/or stairs
  • Stooping, crouching, kneeling, and bending
  • Handling, feeling, and gripping would be required for some activities
  • Visual acuity is required to inspect work completed
  • This role may be subject to internal and external environmental conditions
