Job summary

Vertiv is seeking an experienced Quality Systems Engineer to lead process development and quality improvement initiatives. You will assess production workflows, implement SPC controls, and develop workmanship standards and quality plans to drive defect reduction and yield improvement.

Responsibilities include leading cross-functional 8D/RCA investigations, maintaining FMEA documentation, and collaborating with Manufacturing, Design Engineering, and Supply Chain to ensure process capability

Qualifications

  • : Requires BA/BS in engineering or related field; 8+ years in quality or related area.
  • Proven experience with FMEA and control plans.
  • Experience with 8D problem solving and corrective actions.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with data trends.

Job description

  • Assess compliance to workmanship standards and work instructions. Analyze production workflows to identify inefficiencies, defects, and opportunities for process improvement.
  • Design and implement process controls, inspection criteria, and statistical process control (SPC) methods to reduce variability and improve yield.
  • Develop, document, and maintain manufacturing workmanship standards, process procedures, work instructions, and quality plans.
Responsibilities
Process Development and Optimization
  • Assess compliance to workmanship standards and work instructions. Analyze production workflows to identify inefficiencies, defects, and opportunities for process improvement.
  • Design and implement process controls, inspection criteria, and statistical process control (SPC) methods to reduce variability and improve yield.
  • Develop, document, and maintain manufacturing workmanship standards, process procedures, work instructions, and quality plans.
Quality Assurance and Compliance
  • Develop and maintain process Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) documentation.
  • Monitor key quality metrics (scrap rate, first pass yield, cost of poor quality) and drive improvement initiatives.
Root Cause Analysis and Corrective Action
  • Lead cross-functional root cause analysis investigations using structured methodologies (8D, 5-Why, Fishbone/Ishikawa).
  • Facilitate cross-functional process improvement workshops and Kaizen events.
  • Track and validate effectiveness of corrective actions through data-driven verification.
Stakeholder Coordination and Continuous Improvement
  • Collaborate with Manufacturing, Design Engineering, and Supply Chain teams to ensure process capability aligns with product specifications.
  • Share best practices with other facilities and drive best practices identified by other facilities.
Qualifications
Minimum Job Qualifications
  • BA, BS Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Industrial and Systems Engineering, or other relevant degree.
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in quality, or a related field.
  • Proven track record of driving metric improvements by utilizing paretos and utilizing quality management systems in a manufacturing or production environment.
  • Direct and relative experience conducting Root Cause and Corrective Actions using 8D problem solving or similar techniques.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyze complex data, identify trends and patterns, and develop effective solutions.
  • Direct and relative experience developing FMEA’s and control plans.
  • Experience using measurement systems in receiving inspection or problem solving.
  • Possesses a strong work ethic and sets high standards for quality and quantity of work. Ability to work in a fast paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Working knowledge of metal cutting, waterjets, and CNC machines.
  • High degree of knowledge with brazing and welding.
  • Expertise in metrology and measurement equipment.
  • Working knowledge of MES systems and traceability.
  • Knowledge of quality assurance principles, methodologies, and tools, including statistical analysis, root cause analysis, and risk management.
  • Experience leading cross-functional teams and driving continuous improvement initiatives (i.e. Kaizen events)
  • Certification in quality management (e.g., Six Sigma, Lean, ASQ) and Lean Six Sigma Green/Black Belt.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and people skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate effectively at all levels of the organization.

Environmental Demands
  • Ability to work around elevated temperatures.
Travel Time Required
  • Travel required, approximately 10-15%.
