Job summary

SMT is seeking a Manufacturing Technician at our Durham, NC facility to support assembly and testing of tracking technology and hardware. You will use hand and power tools on a production line with high attention to detail and adherence to procedures.

The role requires basic math, the ability to read procedures, lifting up to 60 pounds, and standing for long shifts. Schedule is Monday–Friday, 8:30am–5:00pm with occasional overtime; benefits include medical, dental, vision, and PTO.

Qualifications

• 1-2 years’ manufacturing experience preferred but not required.
• Ability to read, understand, and follow documented processes and procedures.
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy in documentation.
• Ability to lift up to 60 pounds and work on a production line with safe practices.

Responsibilities

• Execute assembly-type functions using hand and/or power tools per procedures.
• Perform basic machine maintenance and repairs.
• Maintain a clean and orderly work area and equipment.
• Adhere to safety regulations and wear required PPE.
• Read and follow instruction manuals to operate equipment.
• Operate various equipment and machinery on the line.
• Package completed items for shipping.
• Keep records of materials and equipment.

As a Manufacturing Technician, you will assist in the manufacturing of tracking technology and hardware from our Durham, NC manufacturing facility. This opportunity requires an exceptional attention to detail, comfortability operating specialized machinery, tools and equipment as well as working the production line.

What is Your Daily Impact at SMT?

• Executing assembly-type functions using hand and/or power tools and perform related duties
• Performing simple machine maintenance and repairs
• Maintaining the work area and equipment in a clean and orderly condition
• Strictly adhering to prescribed safety regulations and wear proper safety attire to maintain a safe and accident-free workspace
• Reading and understanding instruction manuals for operating equipment and machinery
• Operating various pieces of equipment and machinery
• Packaging completed items for shipping
• Keeping records of materials and equipment

What Do You Bring to SMT?

• 1-2 years’ experience in a manufacturing preferred but not required
• Strong communication and problem-solving skills
• Ability to read, understand, and follow documented processes and procedures
• Strong attention to detail
• Ability to work in fast-paced manufacturing environment
• perform basic math computations and computer data entry
• Ability to use measuring devices, hand tools, and power tools
• Ability to lift 60 pounds, climb a ladder up to 15 feet high, and walk/stand throughout entire shift
• Ability to repetitively:
  • Pinch and grasp hand tools
  • Twist, bend, and reach upward
  • Handle small screws, washers, fasteners

This role is paid $20-$23/hour dependent on experience

This is full-time role, eligible for medical insurance plans and other benefits (Dental, Vision, PTO).

Are you seeking nights and weekends off? You’ll get it in this role! Your shift schedule will be Monday-Friday, and our production hours are from 8:30am-5:00pm with occasional overtime .
