Job description

About the Job:

The Manufacturing Supervisor oversees the daily operations of the metal powder production process. This role includes managing the production team, ensuring the quality and consistency of products, maintaining safety standards, and optimizing manufacturing efficiency. This is a “working supervisor” role, where the incumbent may be required to operate equipment to ensure full shift coverage.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Supervision and Leadership:
  • Lead and supervise a team of Production Technicians (Foundry Operator and Sieving Equipment Operators) in the metal powder production process.
  • Schedule, assign and monitor work to ensure production targets are met.
  • Provide feedback and training to team members to improve their skills and performance.
  • Production Management and Operation:
    • Oversee the entire metal production process, from metal feedstock handling to packaging of metal powders for shipment.
    • Monitor and adjust foundry and sieving equipment and processes to ensure optimal performance.
    • Ensure production schedules are met and metal powders are produced to specifications.
    • Step in to operate foundry and sieving equipment when coverage is needed.
  • Quality Control:
    • Implement and maintain quality control procedures to ensure product consistency and compliance with industry standards.
    • Regularly inspect processes and metal powder outputs – address and resolve quality issues.
  • Safety & Compliance:
    • Ensure all safety protocols and regulations are followed on the manufacturing floor.
    • Ensure team members complete safety training and audit/enforce safety procedures to minimize workplace accidents and hazards.
    • Maintain compliance with environmental regulations and compliance policies.
  • Process Improvement:
    • Identify opportunities for process improvements to increase efficiency, reduce costs and enhance product quality.
    • Collaborate with engineering, R&D and IT teams to implement new technologies and innovations.
  • Maintenance and Troubleshooting:
    • Coordinate routine maintenance and repairs of equipment; troubleshoot failures and process issues to minimize downtime.
    • Work with maintenance team to develop preventative maintenance schedules.
  • Reporting and Documentation:
    • Maintain accurate production data including output, downtime and quality metrics.
    • Prepare and present regular reports on production performance and management.
    • Ensure proper documentation of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and safety guidelines.

    Required and Preferred Experience and Skills, Education Qualifications:

    • Associate’s degree or higher in Engineering, materials science or related field, or equivalent work experience.
    • Minimum 5 years of experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably in Metal Powder production.
    • Proven experience in supervisory or leadership role.
    • Strong understanding of metal powder production processes and equipment is preferred.
    • Knowledge of quality control principles and practices.
    • Familiarity with Safety and Environmental regulations in a manufacturing setting.
    • Proficiency in using manufacturing software and tools.

    Work Environment and Physical Requirements of the Role:

    • The position is based in a manufacturing facility, including loud noises, moving mechanical parts and exposure to metal powders.
    • Work hours may include shifts, weekends and holidays as needed to meet production demands.
    • Strict adherence to safety protocols is required to minimize risks associated with handling hazardous materials.
    • The role requires wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), including steel-toe shoes, protective eyewear, earplugs and respiratory equipment (when working with metal powders).
    • Must have capacity to stand for extended periods and perform repetitive tasks.
    • Must be able to lift 20 - 50 lbs.

    Travel:

    Some domestic travel may be required.
