Position Overview
The Production Engineer serves as the primary technical subject matter expert for Coolant Distribution Units (CDUs) and advanced liquid cooling systems at the Katy manufacturing facility. The role supports the full product lifecycle by collaborating with global NPI and development teams to transfer new CDU projects into mass production, supporting local assembly and functional testing, and performing RMA root-cause analysis. The engineer also provides technical feedback to engineering teams and travels to customer facilities as needed for field support.
Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities
- NPI Transfer and Multi-Site Collaboration: Work closely with cross-site NPI and development engineering teams during early prototype phases; lead the technology and process transfer of new CDU projects from prototype environments into the Katy facility for high-volume mass production.
- CDU System Expertise and Mass Production Readiness: Master the functional architecture, electrical design, sensor loops, pump controls, and embedded systems of Cooler Master CDUs to ensure Katy production line readiness, fixture availability, and smooth ramp-up.
- Functional Test Setup: Design, build, configure, and maintain functional test stations, automated testing scripts, and electrical and thermal validation setups for CDU assembly lines.
- Shop-Floor Support and Line Troubleshooting: Serve as the primary technical contact for production line electrical failures, sensor glitches, and control board issues; perform immediate diagnostic troubleshooting to maintain high manufacturing yield.
- RMA Triage, Failure Analysis, and Cross-Regional Feedback: Inspect returned CDU units; isolate component faults, firmware bugs, and environmental or operational failure causes; and translate findings into feedback for Asia design and R&D teams to improve reliability, design for manufacturability, and design for testability.
- Customer Field Engineering: Travel to customer sites as needed to inspect, evaluate, and resolve complex technical issues on deployed CDU systems.
- Technical Documentation: Create functional test protocols, diagnostic decision trees, RMA triage workflows, and technical work instructions for manufacturing operators and quality technicians.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE), Electronics Engineering, or a related field.
- 5+ years of experience in manufacturing engineering, product test engineering, NPI engineering, or field support in complex electromechanical assembly environments.
- Knowledge of power electronics, motor and pump drives, relay logic, microcontrollers, and flow, pressure, temperature, and leak-detection sensor interfaces.
- Hands-on experience developing, configuring, and maintaining functional test fixtures and data acquisition (DAQ) equipment.
- Familiarity with microcontrollers, including ARM, STM32, and PIC, and standard communication protocols, including I2C, SPI, UART, USB, and CAN.
- Practical expertise using oscilloscopes, multimeters, power analyzers, signal generators, and other electrical diagnostic equipment.
- Experience with programmable logic controllers (PLCs), microcontrollers, or embedded controller interfaces in industrial thermal equipment, including firmware flashing, board-level debugging, and parameter tuning.
- Prior experience managing NPI-to-mass-production line transfers.
- Direct experience with liquid cooling systems, CDUs, industrial chillers or HVAC, or fluid-delivery control systems.
- Strong analytical skills and a methodical approach to troubleshooting complex electronic systems.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English, including the ability to explain technical tradeoffs clearly to cross-functional engineering and management teams.
