Job description

The Engineering Manager owns the site’s capital project portfolio and asset reliability strategy to ensure safe, compliant, and cost-effective operations. This role leads a multidisciplinary team (project engineers, reliability engineers, planners) to deliver engineering solutions, improve equipment reliability, and support Process Safety Management (PSM) and Mechanical Integrity (MI). The Manager partners with Operations, Maintenance, EHS, Quality, and Supply Chain to optimize throughput, reduce losses, and extend asset life while meeting business objectives. To be successful in the role, the Engineering Manager needs to be committed to employee development, results-driven, safety-focused, detail-oriented, and comfortable working in a fast paced, process-driven environment.

Key Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Develop and execute a multi‑year engineering and reliability roadmap aligned to site strategy (safety, quality, delivery, cost, sustainability).
  • Establish standards for design basis, specification control, MOC, PSSR, and documentation (as‑builts, P&IDs, datasheets).
  • Standardize equipment and technologies to reduce complexity and lifecycle costs; maintain engineering specifications and standards.
  • Implement Reliability-Centered Maintenance (RCM), FMEA, and criticality analysis to define optimal PM/PdM strategies.
  • Lead root-cause analysis (RCA/5-Why/Fishbone/8D) for chronic losses; convert findings into engineered solutions and sustainable standards.
  • Own engineering and reliability aspects of PSM/RMP: MI program, inspection/test plans, relief device program, instrumentation integrity, SIS/SIF lifecycle activities in partnership with Controls/PSM.
  • Lead major turnarounds/outages: scope freeze, critical path control, contractor safety, and flawless startup readiness.
  • Lead and develop project engineers, reliability engineers, planners, and specialists; set goals, coach performance, and build succession plans.
  • Promote a culture of safety, ownership, standard work, and continuous improvement; recognize excellence and share learnings.
  • Provide technical mentoring and training for Operations and Maintenance on design intent and asset care.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Chemical, Industrial or Electrical Engineering (equivalent experience in lieu of a degree may be considered, but is not preferred).
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in process engineering and/or reliability engineering roles within a chemical, petrochemical, or industrial manufacturing environment. Experience in industries including aerospace, automotive or other discrete manufacturing is not relevant to this role.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience leading engineering/reliability or cross‑functional/multi-disciplinary technical teams of 10+. Team player and tenured leader able to guide junior-level engineers towards success.
  • Previous experience as a hands-on Chemical Engineer, Industrial Engineer, Mechanical Engineer, Process Engineer or similar, eventually moving into management. MUST have experience working within chemical, CPG or pharmaceutical manufacturing. Discrete manufacturing, aerospace, automotive, etc experience is not applicable.
  • Strong knowledge of RCM, FMEA, RBI, SIS/SIF, and predictive maintenance technologies.
  • Familiarity with codes/standards: API, ASME, NFPA, NEC, ISA/IEC 61511, ASTM.
  • Strong capital project management experience, including commissioning and startup support.
  • Experience with continuous improvement/deploying lean tools to resolve issues.
