Job description

We are seeking a hands-on Manufacturing Process Engineer to drive operational excellence within our glass fabrication plants. This role is the critical link between our physical manufacturing capabilities and our operational data. You will spend the majority of your time on the production floor—becoming our resident expert in glass machining, tempering, and assembly capabilities—while leading initiatives to optimize product flow, increase throughput, and redesign work-cell layouts.

Additionally, as we implement a new ERP system, you will be responsible for translating your floor-level process improvements into accurate operational data by establishing precise process times, standard work definitions, and Bill of Materials (BOM) routings.

This role is based at our Surgoinsville, TN facility with occasional travel to Mosinee, WI facility required.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

This list of duties and responsibilities is not all inclusive and may be expanded to include other duties and responsibilities as management may deem necessary from time to time.

Process Optimization & Plant Layout
  • Analyze current glass fabrication and assembly workflows to identify bottlenecks, eliminate waste, and increase overall plant throughput.
  • Design, propose, and implement optimized work-cell and facility layouts to improve material flow and handling efficiency.
  • Develop standard operating procedures (SOPs) for cutting, CNC machining, tempering, and assembly operations.
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives using Lean manufacturing methodologies.
Equipment & Machining Expertise
  • Become the internal technical authority on our glass fabrication machinery, including capabilities, tolerances, tooling, and cycle times utilizing SPC and other analytical methods.
  • Partner with maintenance and production supervisors to troubleshoot complex equipment or process failures.
  • Evaluate and recommend new tooling, fixtures, or equipment to enhance manufacturing capabilities.
ERP Integration & BOM Management
  • Conduct accurate time-and-motion studies across all production phases to establish baseline manufacturing times.
  • Translate physical floor processes into accurate ERP data by building and maintaining production routings and BOMs.
  • Ensure that operational costing models—such as labor rates, consumable usage, and furnace cycle times—are accurately reflected in the ERP system to support accurate quoting and production planning.
  • Serve as the manufacturing liaison during the ERP implementation, ensuring system workflows match physical floor realities.
Qualifications:
  • 3+ years of engineering experience in a custom or semi-custom manufacturing environment. (Experience in glass fabrication, metalworking, or similar industrial machining is highly preferred).
  • Bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience).A combination of related education and experience may be considered.
  • Experience with medium/large scale ERP systems (i.e., Acumatica, NetSuite, SAP, Oracle, IFS) desired.
  • Proficiency with CAD software (AutoCAD, SolidWorks, etc.) for designing work-cells and plant layouts.
  • Proven experience conducting time studies and building BOMs/routings for ERP systems.
  • Demonstrated ability of critical thinking skills and problem-solving ability.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Above average communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Willingness to share ideas, find solutions and improvements and support others to be successful.
  • Demonstrate flexibility in schedule, if necessary, based on production needs and determined by management.
