Job summary

Ford is seeking an engineer to join an agile team delivering standardized machining solutions for powertrain programs. You will design processes, layout efficiently, and address ergonomics and safety while collaborating with OEMs and internal teams to launch new programs.

The role requires a BS in Engineering and 1+ years of engineering/manufacturing experience, with GD&T and Lean Six Sigma familiarity. The position is based in Dearborn, MI, with significant travel and hybrid onsite work.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical, Industrial, Mechanical, or Manufacturing Engineering.
  • 1+ years of engineering and manufacturing experience.
  • Familiarity with GD&T and reading engineering drawings.
  • Strong communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.
  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing Principles and Six Sigma.

Responsibilities

  • Support development and implementation of machining systems for powertrain programs.
  • Optimize processes for quality, cost, timing, and footprint.
  • Assist with equipment installation, run capability and handover to plants.
  • Coordinate bids and purchase orders with Purchasing and suppliers.
  • Collaborate with OEMs, product and plant engineering to resolve issues.
  • Interface with facilities, safety, ergonomics, and material handling teams.
  • Support simulations for constraint analysis with IE teams.
  • Travel up to 50% for project support.

Job description

This position will be a part of an agile team implementing standardized engineering solutions for machining equipment. They will have responsibility for process design, layout, ergonomics, safety and productivity. The engineer will be working closely with my teams to deliver new programs. This includes OEMs, Plant Production Teams, Launch, gauging, tooling, and controls.

  • Support development and implementation of Crankshafts, Gears and related Round Parts manufacturing systems for new powertrain programs in Michigan, Ohio, and Ontario, Canada.
  • Utilize machining process knowledge, particularly steel and iron metal cutting and grinding to deliver an efficient and optimized process regarding quality, costs, timing, and footprint.
  • Support equipment installation, power on, run capability, and equipment handover to the powertrain plants.
  • Initiate bids, evaluate, recap bids for equipment purchase; work with Purchasing to write and place orders.
  • Work with OEMs, suppliers, Product, and Plant engineering teams to resolve engineering and program delivery issues.
  • Interface and coordinate project related items such as facilities, safety, ergonomics, material handling & kitting, tooling, and gauging.
  • Support discrete event simulation for constraint analysis; work with Industrial Engineers (IE) to assess and improve throughput.
  • Travel up to 50% in support of assigned projects in collaboration with OEMs, Tooling, Gauging, and related equipment suppliers.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical, Industrial, Mechanical, or Manufacturing Engineering.
  • 1+ years of engineering and manufacturing experience
  • Working knowledge of GD&T reading engineering drawings
  • Strong communication skills along with the ability to work in a cross functional team
  • Strong organization skills with the ability to handle complex projects with multiple objectives
  • Familiarity of Lean Manufacturing Principles and Six Sigma
  • Proven record of customer focused work
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Knowledge or experience with heat-treatment or metallurgy
  • Forging or casting knowledge or experience
  • Experience working in a UAW environment
  • Experience in a face-paced, high production, manufacturing facility

This position is based in Dearborn, MI. There will be times during launches that will require a significant amount of travel and working directly in Ford manufacturing plants.

This position is a salary grade 6-8 and ranges from $74,300-$166,200.

Final determination of salary grade will be based on candidate's skills and experience, and base salary will be set within the applicable range according to job scope, responsibility and competitive market value.
