The ideal candidate has 2–3 years of experience in can decoration or a similar manufacturing setting, strong attention to detail, and the ability to lift up to 50 lbs.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Operate and maintain can decorating machinery to ensure optimum performance.
• Monitor decoration process to meet quality standards and customer specs.
• Perform quality checks and implement corrective actions as needed.
• Troubleshoot machine issues to minimize downtime and maintain output.
• Assist in setup and adjustment of decorating operations (screen/offset printing).
• Collaborate with decorating team to train and ensure proficiency with equipment.
• Manage decorating supplies and ensure materials are available.
• Enforce safety protocols and OSHA compliance in the decoration area.
• Work with production, maintenance, and quality teams to drive process improvements.
• Participate in routine maintenance and equipment adjustments.
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of the work area (5S).
• Support the decoration team in meeting production goals safely and with quality.
• Other duties as assigned.

Job description

Michigan Can Lines is seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Decoration Technician to support the decoration process of aluminum cans. The Decorations Technician will be responsible for ensuring the efficient operation of printing and decorating equipment, performing quality checks, and supporting the decorating team to meet production targets. This role requires technical expertise in the decoration process, a strong focus on quality, and a commitment to safety and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities:

• Operate and maintain can decorating machinery, including printing presses and label applicators, ensuring optimal performance throughout the production process.
• Monitor the decoration process, ensuring printed cans meet company quality standards and customer specifications.
• Perform regular quality checks on decorated cans, identifying defects or deviations from standards, and implement corrective actions as needed.
• Troubleshoot and resolve machine-related issues to minimize downtime and maintain consistent, high-quality output.
• Assist in setting up and adjusting machines for decorating operations, including screen printing, offset printing, or other decorating methods.
• Work closely with the decorating team to ensure they are properly trained in the decoration process and proficient in using machinery.
• Assist in managing decorating supplies, including inks, coatings, and other materials. Ensure that materials are available to meet production demands and minimize disruptions.
• Enforce safety protocols and ensure compliance with all relevant safety standards, including OSHA regulations, within the decoration area.
• Collaborate with production, maintenance, and quality teams to implement process improvements aimed at increasing efficiency and product quality.
• Participate in routine maintenance of decorating machinery and assist with equipment adjustments as required.
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of the work area in accordance with 5S and other company standards.
• Support the decoration team in meeting production goals while adhering to safety and quality standards.
• Other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

• Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in the aluminum can decorating industry or similar manufacturing environment.
• Ability to operate, troubleshoot, and maintain decorating machinery.
• Excellent attention to detail with a focus on maintaining high product quality and consistency.
• Knowledge of safety standards and regulations, with a proven ability to follow and enforce safety protocols.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team to meet production targets.
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to resolve production issues in a timely manner.
• Good communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
• Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 lbs and work in a manufacturing environment with exposure to noise, chemicals, and other hazards.

Working Conditions:

This position involves working in a manufacturing environment with exposure to various physical hazards, including high noise levels, chemicals, and moving machinery. Employees are required to wear PPE, such as safety glasses, hearing protection, and protective clothing, in accordance with safety guidelines.
