Job summary

nVent is seeking a production technician to set up, adjust, and run laser systems and cutting machines (FOL/WEMO). You will lead the initial fabrication phase using computerized manufacturing technologies and rotate through Accessory Cell, metal prep, welding, grinding and assembly.

Applicants should have a high school diploma, 1 year CNC exposure, and 2+ years production experience. The role includes training during 1st or 2nd shift and a Fri/Sat/Sun 5:00 AM–5:30 PM schedule.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or G.E.D. required.
  • 1 year CNC manufacturing equipment experience preferred.
  • 2+ years production work experience preferred.
  • Experience with Windows Word, Excel, Outlook, JD Edwards and Radan; DPA tools beneficial.

Responsibilities

  • Provide backup to the Production Supervisor.
  • Support the line by filling in positions to maintain workflow during absences.
  • Lead and participate in Kaizen events using Lean principles.
  • Enforce safety and department policies.
  • Operate and adjust fabrication equipment and safety devices per docs.
  • Position materials and tooling per prints; execute set-ups.
  • Meet production schedules and maintain quality standards per prints.
  • Maintain a clean, safe work area and assist with maintenance/troubleshooting.

POSITION SUMMARY

To set up, adjust, maintain and efficiently operate laser systems (FOL), as well as the WEMO, and Cutting machines. Use computerized manufacturing technologies to lead and guide the initial phase of the fabrication process. Shift Hours: Fri/Sat/Sun 5AM to 5:30PM *Must also be able to train during 1st or 2nd Shift*

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Provide backup to the Production Supervisor.
  • Support the production process by filling in positions on the line when necessary to maintain the flow of work when absences occur (Vacation, PTO, Restroom breaks, etc.).
  • Knowledge of Lean principles in order to lead and participate in Kaizen events.
  • Be a change agent and drive out waste throughout department through the deployment of the Lean methodology.
  • Able to enforce company and department policy.
  • Uses computerized manufacturing technologies or related systems to meet production and customer requirements.
  • Performs set‑up duties on fabrication equipment and the safety devices in accordance with production documentation.
  • Positions production materials and tooling and maintains proper dimensions according to print specifications.
  • Operates and adjusts various equipment, including controllers, and edits programs according to production documentation.
  • Meets established performance standards to ensure production schedules are met.
  • Complies with all applicable safety procedures and reports unsafe conditions or potential safety hazards to team leader or appropriate resource.
  • Ensures that products and systems meet Hoffman quality standards.
  • Inspects work to ensure proper dimensional requirements are met per prints.
  • Performs specified preventative maintenance procedures, and assists Maintenance and outside sources with trouble‑shooting systems.
  • Takes action and notifies appropriate resource when problems arise concerning equipment, operations, materials, etc.
  • Participates actively as a team member through continuous improvement activities to meet customer needs.
  • Maintains a clean, safe and organized work area.
  • May be required to perform additional duties as assigned.
  • Perform rotational assignments including metal prep, welding, spot‑welding, grinding, and assembly.
  • Must rotate through Accessory Cell.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
  • High School Diploma or G.E.D.
  • 1 year of CNC manufacturing equipment experience preferred.
  • 2+ years production work experience preferred.
  • Computer experience with Windows Word, Excel, Outlook, JD Edwards and Radan, Digital Production Assistant (DPA)
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
  • Knowledge of all operations of the assigned production process required
  • Knowledge of safety policies and procedures, and ability to promote compliance with them.
  • Skill in analytical thinking and problem solving
  • Skill in communicating effectively through oral and written communications
  • Ability to read and understand blue prints.
  • Fork truck licensed or ability to obtain one.
  • Ability to lift, slide and shake heavy gauges of material.
  • Ability to read and use measuring equipment ( i.e. tape measure, caliper )
  • Ability to identify and support continuous improvement efforts with the Production Supervisor.
  • Ability to sustain and drive lean manufacturing and 5S activities
  • Ability to maintain a clean and organized work area to facilitate manufacturing functions.
  • Ability to adapt to rapidly changing business circumstance and have the ability to thrive in a constantly changing business environment.
  • Ability to acquire weld certification (2 week training)
  • Ability to complete robotics training

Pay Transparency

Compensation Range: $23.90 - $44.40 Per Hour Depending on the position offered, employee may be eligible for other forms of compensation, such as annual incentives.
