Job summary

AFL manufactures industry-leading fiber optic cable and supports major telecom customers worldwide. The Manufacturing Utility Operator will oversee daily activities, support line operators, and ensure safety, quality, and on-time delivery.

This role involves changeovers, training new operators, and addressing production disruptions. Assigned to night or day shifts on a 3-2-2 schedule, this position emphasizes teamwork, process improvement, and adherence to AFL’s environmental, health & safety

Qualifications

  • Self-starter with integrity and self-confidence, who can work with limited supervision.
  • Ability to coordinate multiple tasks while dealing with shifting priorities.
  • Strong interpersonal, influencing, and teamwork skills; comfortable engaging others as necessary to complete assignments.
  • Ability to follow strict test procedures and maintain objective attitude towards testing results.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills to schedule and monitor work activity.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills with the ability to interact at all levels of the organization and with customers.
  • Ability to apply basic math and numeric reasoning to solve problems.

Responsibilities

  • Assess daily production schedules and plan to ensure uninterrupted flow as well as fulfillment of customer delivery requirements.
  • Coordinate the day-to-day activities of team members.
  • Ensure WIP, tooling, and other needed items are staged for the next run at each line.
  • Provide the necessary support, training, and troubleshooting to ensure an effective team.
  • Cover for unplanned operator absences.
  • Develop training documents and facilitate training; assist in trouble shooting issues.
  • Troubleshoot and intervene as needed to address and resolve disruptions as quickly as possible in order to maintain product flow.
  • Establish appropriate channels of feedback to inform upstream departments of defects.
  • Review/update completed nonconforming reports for accuracy and publish KPI metrics as assigned daily.
  • Lead and/or participate in improvements activities
  • Responsible for 5s activities for assigned area.
  • Monitor performance and provide feedback to Manager.
  • Adhere to and promote the environmental, health & safety policies of AFL.
  • Perform other duties as requested, directed or assigned.
