Job summary

Whirlpool Corporation offers a 12-week Manufacturing Leadership Development Program (MLDP) internship in Operations. You'll work in a plant environment focused on lean manufacturing, quality, and logistics with real project exposure.

Eligible students are pursuing Mechanical, Manufacturing, or Industrial Engineering with a 2.8+ GPA and current US work authorization. The program includes housing stipends, development opportunities, and potential full-time openings after graduation.

• Planning to graduate by May 2029.
• Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.8 or higher.

Responsibilities

• Lead scrap reduction initiatives with scope, timeline and suppliers.
• Drive cost-savings through standardized work audits and throughput.
• Manage equipment/resource relocation projects.
• Coordinate test programs or components with cost and quality in mind.
• Lead change management with affected team members.
• Apply Lean Manufacturing tools to projects.

The Internship Program - May 2027 Start Date

Our 12 week Manufacturing Leadership Development Program (MLDP): Operations Track Internship provides individuals experience with award-winning manufacturing operations at production plants that have made Whirlpool Corporation a global leader in manufacturing home appliances. Our expansive factories are vertically integrated, and include final product assembly in addition to supporting operations such as press, fabrication, plastics, paint, and logistics. The internship provides experience with our World Class Manufacturing methodology, and internship projects could be in areas such as lean manufacturing, quality, logistics, and many more.

Your day-to-day

Intern Project Assignments Could Be In Areas Such As

• Lead scrap reduction initiatives, including project scope and timeline development, problem solving with suppliers, establishing standardized solutions and implementing changes
• Focus on cost-savings initiatives across a plant, including standardized work audits, improving first-pass yield and throughput, etc.
• Manage equipment/resource relocation projects
• Design, develop, review, and conduct coordination for test programs or components, small systems or processes, or materials, taking into account customers, product performance, cost and quality requirements
• Lead change management with impacted team members
• Learn and apply Lean Manufacturing tools to project(s)

Upon successful completion of the summer internship program, you may be considered for employment opportunities within the Full-Time Manufacturing Leadership Development Program post‑graduation.

Program Location

This internship will take place at one of our North American plant locations. Many of our internships take place at our Ohio‑based plant locations with potential opportunities for the internship to take place in our plants located in Tennessee, or Oklahoma. Minimum Requirements

• Majoring in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or Operations/Operations Management, or a related area
• Pursuing bachelor’s degree with plans to graduate before or by May 2029
• Current cumulative GPA of 2.8 or higher
• Must have indefinite US work authorization. Applicants who require visa sponsorship or work authorization now or in the future are not eligible for this program.
• Must have access to reliable transportation and be geographically mobile
