Job summary

Vaco is hiring a Manufacturing/Mechanical Engineer in Hamilton, OH for a direct hire onsite role. Salary 105-115k/yr plus bonus. You will develop and optimize manufacturing processes, tooling, and CNC workflows to improve quality, throughput, and cost.

You will work across Engineering, Quality, Sales, Supply Chain, Production, customers, operators, and vendors to support new and existing programs, implement process controls, and mentor technicians.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline required.
  • 4+ years of CAD experience; SolidWorks preferred.
  • 4+ years of CAM experience; Mastercam preferred.
  • 4+ years of experience programming, operating, and developing processes for 3-, 4-, and/or 5-axis CNC milling machines.
  • Experience with 3-, 4-, and 5-axis milling machines, surface grinders, turning, and wire EDM.
  • CMM experience is a plus.
  • Experience maintaining tight GD&T tolerances of 0.0010" or less.
  • Experience working with difficult-to-machine materials and/or high-value components.
  • Experience developing fixturing strategies for complex parts.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate, develop, and implement manufacturing processes based on product requirements, design specifications, materials, tooling, equipment, and production capabilities.
  • Research, design, modify, and test manufacturing methods, equipment, technologies, and processes.
  • Analyze workflow, space requirements, equipment layouts, and production methods to improve efficiency and throughput.
  • Develop and implement process controls, testing methods, and manufacturing standards to ensure product quality and consistency.
  • Identify and support corrective actions for nonconforming parts and production issues.
  • Proactively identify and resolve manufacturing problems while minimizing costs and production disruptions.
  • Develop and optimize processes for CNC machining and other manufacturing operations.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on cycle time reduction, throughput, yield, quality, and cost.
  • Program CNC machines and coordinate programming for machining and measuring equipment.
  • Investigate programming and equipment failures, diagnose faulty operations, and implement effective solutions.
  • Design manufacturing equipment, fixtures, tooling, and gauges for complex parts and applications.
  • Develop fixturing strategies and manufacturing processes for complex, high-value components.
  • Support machine programming, process design, quality engineering, and process implementation.
  • Interpret customer blueprints and create or modify internal manufacturing drawings and documentation.
  • Lead and participate in Research & Development (R&D) programs designed to expand manufacturing capabilities.
  • Prepare product and process reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing manufacturing data, trends, and performance metrics.
  • Maintain accurate product and process data through programming, data entry, documentation, and other technical activities.
  • Complete design and development projects by training and guiding technicians.
  • Communicate manufacturing engineering solutions and technical information to internal teams and stakeholders.
  • Maintain current technical knowledge through professional development, industry publications, educational programs, professional networks, and industry organizations.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Position Overview

The Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for developing, improving, and implementing manufacturing processes, equipment, tooling, and technologies to optimize production efficiency, quality, throughput, and cost. This role works closely with Engineering, Quality, Sales, Supply Chain, Production, customers, operators, and equipment vendors to support new and existing manufacturing programs.

Key Responsibilities
Manufacturing Engineering

  • Develop fixturing strategies and manufacturing processes for complex, high-value components.

Customer, Sales & Supply Chain Support
  • Support Sales and Supply Chain in evaluating customer requirements and value-added manufacturing processes.
  • Support customer quoting activities through process selection, cycle-time development, cost estimation, and risk identification.
  • Provide accurate manufacturing cost estimates and help monitor estimated versus actual production costs.
  • Partner with Quality to develop and implement quality engineering processes and controls.
  • Provide manufacturing engineering expertise to address customer and internal technical requirements.
R&D, Data & Documentation
  • Lead and participate in Research & Development (R&D) programs designed to expand manufacturing capabilities.
