Job summary

Graphic Packaging International seeks a seasoned supervisor to manage the safe and reliable operations of equipment in the paper machine area of the mill. The role focuses on leading the paper machine team, implementing best practice strategies, and supporting two paper machines.

The ideal candidate has 5 years of supervisory experience in the pulp and paper industry, coating and wet end work, with a BS in Engineering. Lean and Six Sigma knowledge are required to drive continuous improvement.

Qualifications

  • Five (5) years of supervisory experience in the pulp and paper industry, preferably with Paper Machine Experience.
  • Coated paperboard experience preferred.
  • Wet end/fourdrinier experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assistant Superintendent for paper machine area.
  • Implement and maintain best practice strategies for the department.
  • Support production teams for (2) paper machines, filling in directly for vacancies as needed.
  • Assist in preparation and maintaining department budgets.
  • Identify projects for new capital investments, cost reduction and equipment refurbishment.
  • Determine training needs and administer appropriate training programs for salaried and hourly employees on Paper Machines to function in the most reliable manner.
  • Provide leadership with problem-solving strategies and execution of key performance objectives.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

MISSION / SUMMARY:This position is critical to the managing the safe and reliable operations of equipment in the paper machine area of the mill.

JOB FUNCTION: Job functions include but are not limited to the following.

  • Assistant Superintendent for paper machine area
  • Implement and maintain best practice strategies for the department.
  • Support production teams for (2) paper machines, filling in directly for vacancies as needed.
  • Assist in preparation and maintaining department budgets.
  • Identify projects for new capital investments, cost reduction and equipment refurbishment.
  • Determine training needs and administer appropriate training programs for salaried and hourly employees on Paper Machines to function in the most reliable manner. Work directly with department trainer to complete training needs for the department.
  • Provide leadership with problem-solving strategies and execution of key performance objectives.

BACKGROUND / EXPERIENCE:

  • Five (5)years of supervisory experience in the pulp and paper industry, preferably with Paper Machine Experience.
  • Coated paperboard experience preferred.
  • Wet end/fourdrinier experience preferred.

EDUCATION / KNOWLEDGE:

  • Bachelor of Science, Engineering.

The successful candidate must exhibit proven ability to self-manage in a dynamic, fast paced environment. Lean Implementation experience and knowledge of six sigma principles will also be needed.
