Job Description

We are actively seeking Maintenance Mechanics to join our team at a growing meat processing company located in Vernon.

  • Monday - Friday
  • Must be open to work overtime & weekends

The ideal candidate will have a strong mechanical background, be proficient with various types of warehouse and production equipment, and be familiar with routine maintenance tasks.

Essential Functions:

  • Perform maintenance to ensure operation of machinery and mechanical equipment by completing both planned and unplanned maintenance on production, packaging, processing equipment, PLCs, and facility systems (including heat, steam, cooling, electrical, power, air, hydraulics, and general facility maintenance).
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot complex mechanical issues with strong problem-solving skills.
  • Perform manual tasks, stand, bend, lift, and work in a cold manufacturing environment.
  • Assemble, install, and repair wiring, electrical components, air compressor systems, plumbing, machinery, and equipment.
  • Analyze and interpret technical procedures, electrical schematics, service manuals, and work orders to perform maintenance and service tasks.
  • Monitor and inspect machines for issues, malfunctions, and irregularities, addressing problems promptly to minimize downtime.
  • Use hand tools, measuring instruments, and specialized equipment to diagnose and resolve mechanical, electrical, and electronic issues.
  • Provide technical guidance and training to machine operators to improve their understanding of machine functions.
  • Complete work orders timely, maintaining high quality standards.
  • Maintain communication with other departments and management regarding issues affecting production efficiency.
  • Ensure all documentation is filled out clearly, legibly, and accurately.
  • Assist in managing parts and supplies inventory by reporting low stock levels.
  • Clean and sanitize equipment according to company policies and procedures.
  • Follow Good Manufacturing Practices.
  • Maintain a clean and sanitary work environment.
  • Follow all safety practices, including Lockout-Tagout, PPE usage, confined space safety, chemical handling, and fall restraints.
  • Adhere to company policies, plant rules, and regulations including SQF and food safety standards.
  • Comply with FDA, USDA, OSHA, and other regulatory agencies.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • 10+ years of experience repairing electrical and mechanical systems.
  • Ability to interact effectively with all levels of management and co-workers.
  • Education or training in electronics and electrical systems.
  • Experience with hydraulic systems.
  • Experience using work order management systems.

Physical Requirements:

  • Lift up to 50 lbs. as needed.
  • Work in varying temperatures, hot and cold.
  • Constantly stand, walk, stoop, bend, lift, and pull.
  • Work standing for the duration of shifts.
  • Work in refrigerated environments and on wet floors.
  • Operate equipment such as floor scrubbers, bailers, pallet jacks, forklifts, dollies, hand pallet jacks, and other warehouse equipment.
