Job description

POSITION PURPOSE

The Maintenance Manager leads the maintenance team across three shifts, ensuring equipment reliability and implementing preventive and predictive maintenance programs to minimize downtime and maximize efficiency. Responsibilities include overseeing personnel, managing budgets, and developing strategies to enhance asset performance while ensuring safety and regulatory compliance.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND BASIC DUTIES

Serves the Orangeburg, NY Production Department. Utilizes engineering resources for technical training, spare parts manufacturing, and equipment upgrades. Responsible for the maintenance budget and spare parts inventory.

Maintenance Operations Management:
  • Ensure minimal equipment downtime through effective maintenance planning.
  • Oversee spare parts inventory and procurement.
Personnel Management:
  • Supervise, train, and develop maintenance staff.
  • Assign work schedules and monitor productivity.
  • Promote safety, accountability, and continuous improvement culture.
  • Conduct performance evaluations and coaching.
Compliance & Safety:
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations and industry standards.
  • Implement OSHA and EHS standards.
  • Maintain documentation for audits and inspections.
Budgeting & Cost Control:
  • Manage maintenance budget and operational costs.
  • Identify cost-saving opportunities while maintaining quality.
  • Negotiate with service providers and suppliers.
Continuous Improvement & Strategy:
  • Implement maintenance best practices, including TPM and Lean methodologies.
  • Collaborate to improve overall equipment efficiency (OEE).
  • Stay updated on technological advancements and suggest improvements.
PERFORMANCE MEASUREMENTS
Workforce Development & Training:
  • Identify skill gaps and provide targeted training.
  • Implement cross-training for workforce flexibility.
  • Encourage professional development and certifications.
Performance Management & Leadership Development:
  • Set KPIs and expectations for staff.
  • Conduct performance reviews and provide feedback.
  • Develop leadership programs for high-potential employees.
Succession Planning:
  • Identify key roles requiring succession planning across shifts and develop plans to support company growth.
QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION:
  • B.S. in Engineering or equivalent experience.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE:
  • Knowledge of packaging equipment principles.
  • Basic electronics understanding.
  • Experience with computerized parts inventory systems and preventive maintenance programs.
EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
  • 5-10 years managing converting/packaging maintenance in a mechanically intensive environment.
  • Experience in parts management, calibration, and purchasing.
  • Experience with flexible packaging.
SKILLS/ABILITIES:
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, 24-hour environment.
  • Ability to hire, train, and evaluate staff performance.
WORKING CONDITIONS
  • Manufacturing environment with exposure to noise, humidity, and temperature variations.
  • Physical requirements include standing, walking, climbing, kneeling, bending, and lifting up to 50 lbs.
  • Compliance with PPE protocols.
  • Availability for emergency and on-call situations.
  • Work involves adherence to FDA, cGMP, and safety protocols in a regulated setting.
SALARY RANGE
  • $100,000 - $120,000 annually, plus bonus.
