Insight Global is seeking an engineer for a 1-year contract in Sterling Heights, MI. The role focuses on CNC machining and equipment launches, coordinating with purchasing, OEMs, and cross-functional teams to optimize quality, cost, and timing.

The candidate will support plant engineers through ideation to implementation, apply Lean/Six Sigma principles, and manage project documentation and handover.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Support plant engineers from ideation through implementation.
• Improve processes for quality, cost, timing and footprint.
• Oversee equipment installation, run capability and handover to production.
• Coordinate bids with Purchasing and place orders.
• Collaborate with OEMs, suppliers, Product and Plant engineering to resolve issues.
• Coordinate safety, ergonomics, material handling and tooling items.
• Assist documentation updates (PFMEA, Process Sheets, JSA).
• Support project reporting to leadership; travel may be local.

Job description

Duration: 1 year contract on-going contract, renewed annually

Location: Sterling Heights, MI

Compensation: $30/hr to $35/hr

Exact compensation may vary based on several factors, including skills, experience, and education.

Must Haves:

• Bachelor of Science in Engineering.
• 2+ years of engineering and hands on manufacturing experience.
• Manufacturing experience with machining, not assembly (specifically CNC machining experience)
• Experience purchasing, running off, and launching equipment (capability studies, gage R&R’s, ergonomic studies)
• Familiarity of Lean Manufacturing principles and Six Sigma
• Strong communication skills along with the ability to work in a cross functional team (needs to be self-starter and good personality)
• Strong organization skills with the ability to handle complex projects with multiple objectives

Day to Day:

• Support plant engineers with all facets of project work – from ideation through implementation.
• Utilize manufacturing process knowledge to deliver efficient and optimized processes regarding quality, costs, timing, and footprint.
• Work in a mix of leadership and support roles (project specific) to oversee equipment installation, power on, run capability, and equipment handover to the production teams.
• Initiate bids, evaluate, recap bids for equipment purchase; work with Purchasing to write and place orders.
• Work with OEMs, suppliers, Product, and Plant engineering teams to resolve engineering and program delivery issues.
• Interface with subject matter experts to coordinate project related items such as facilities, safety, ergonomics, material handling & kitting, tooling, and gauging.
• Support Engineering Documentation updates as needed - Process Sheets, PFMEA, DCP, OIS-JSA, Visual Aids, etc.
• Help with Project Management of individual projects, as well as larger groups of projects, to support report-outs to leadership
• Travel should be minimal – possibly some local travel to local vendor sites for meetings and runoff efforts.
