Request : 2027 Manufacturing Intern

Department : International Manufacturing Department

Description

The 2027 Summer Manufacturing Intern will play a vital role in supporting the Int'l Manufacturing Department through three key projects: maintaining product data integrity across internal databases and software systems, testing and updating the department’s AI-built dashboards and webtools, and building out both compliance and factory audit documentation. These efforts are aimed at improving data accuracy and consistency, strengthening systems of control, and reinforcing streamlined operations for the coming year.

Key Responsibilities
  • Product Data Clean-Up and Management:
  • Collaborate with the Manufacturing team to clean up existing product data Plytix and Netsuite; including dimensions, product attributes, and packaging information, confirming accuracy and consistency for the primary sources of record.
  • Execute single-entry and bulk uploads in Plytix, and generate UPC and UCC codes through GS1 by both single entry and mass upload.
  • Ensure product data flows accurately into manufacturing spec sheets, product sheets, and NetSuite, so that complete specs are available at the time each PO is issued.
  • Testing and Updating AI-Built Applications and Webtools:
  • Review the department’s existing AI-built tools, including PubCrawler, MFG Slide Deck, Receiving Finished Goods, QC Picture Upload, and NetSuite Upload, to ensure they are accurate and reflect current processes.
  • Work with department members to identify gaps, failure points, or outdated steps in each tool.
  • Create new or revised SOPs that are clear, concise, and user-friendly, with review steps built in so that no process depends on one person executing it perfectly.
  • Compliance and Factory Audit Documentation:
  • Organize and maintain compliance documentation pertaining to: packaging, children’s, licensor and retailer compliance by SKU and program.
  • Identify missing or expiring compliance documents before they become program risks.
  • Create a standardized factory audit summary so that findings are consistent and comparable across partner factories.
Desired Skills
  • Relevant Coursework: Pursuing a degree in supply chain, operations, business, industrial engineering, or a related field. Curiosity and follow-through matter more than the specific major.
  • AI Fluency: Experience using tools such as Claude or ChatGPT to draft documentation, analyze data, and automate repetitive tasks. The department builds and maintains its own AI tools, so prompting, testing, and troubleshooting them matters more than formal coding experience.
  • Excel and Data Management: Comfortable working with large data sets, including sorting, filtering, lookup formulas, pivot tables, and preparing files for bulk upload. Much of the product data work happens in spreadsheets before it ever reaches Plytix or NetSuite.
  • Systems Aptitude: Ability to learn new platforms quickly. The intern will work in Plytix, GS1, NetSuite, and AI-Centric platforms. No prior experience with these specific systems is required.
  • Attention to Detail: Accuracy with product specs, dimensions, pantones, and UPC and UCC assignments. A single incorrect digit on a UPC or case marking can stop a retail program at the door.
  • Technical Writing: Ability to write SOPs and process documentation clearly enough that someone else can easily follow them.
  • Communication and Collaboration: Comfortable asking direct questions of internal teams and factory partners rather than filling gaps with assumptions. Much of the work depends on confirming information at the source.
  • Organization and Follow-Through: Ability to manage several projects at once, track open items, and close loops without daily direction.

This internship provides an excellent opportunity for a student interested in manufacturing, product data, and process improvement to make meaningful contributions to Simple Modern’s operational efficiency while gaining practical, hands-on experience.
