Job summary

Jobtailor in Illinois seeks a Mechanical/Mechatronics Engineer to support design, development, and commissioning of custom machines. You will assist senior engineers, create CAD models, and perform basic calculations while collaborating with process and manufacturing teams to drive automation ROI.

Responsibilities include leading integration plans, drafting wiring diagrams, and supporting IQ/OQ/PQ activities in regulated environments. Travel up to 40% internationally is expected.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical/Mechatronics/Manufacturing/CS Eng is required or equivalent.
  • Familiarity with CAD software and ability to read engineering drawings.
  • Basic knowledge of GD&T is preferred.
  • Experience with automation technologies such as Arduino or PLCs is a plus.
  • Willingness to travel 30–40% domestically and internationally.

  • Create and update 3D models, layouts, and 2D drawings using CAD software.
  • Learn and apply basic engineering calculations related to loads and tolerances.
  • Collaborate with processes and manufacturing engineers to identify automation ROI.
  • Develop fixture and tooling requirements with mechanical design teams (SolidWorks preferred).
  • Support IQ/OQ/PQ qualification activities for regulated environments.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve integration issues during production ramp.
  • Own integration project plans from scope to production handoff.
  • Maintain wiring diagrams, FDS, I/O lists, and revision-controlled work instructions.
  • Coordinate with controls, IT, and facilities to meet infrastructure needs.
  • Lead cross-functional reviews and communicate status to management.

  • Learn and apply basic engineering calculations related to loads, motion, tolerances, and component sizing
  • Collaborate with process and manufacturing engineers to identify automation opportunities and ROI justifications
  • Develop fixture and tooling requirements in coordination with mechanical design teams (SolidWorks preferred)
  • Support qualification activities including IQ/OQ/PQ for regulated or precision manufacturing environments
  • Troubleshoot and resolve integration issues during production ramp, minimizing downtime
  • Own integration project plans from scope definition through production handoff
  • Maintain accurate documentation: wiring diagrams, functional design specs, I/O lists, and revision-controlled work instructions
  • Work closely with controls, IT, and facilities to ensure infrastructure requirements (power, networking, safety) are met
  • Lead cross-functional reviews and communicate project status to engineering management and stakeholders
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Computer Science Engineering
  • Familiarity with CAD software (SolidWorks, Inventor, AutoCAD)
  • Basic understanding of manufacturing and mechanical components
  • Ability to read engineering drawings (training provided as needed)
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally (30%-40% international travel)
  • Previous integration experience (preferred)
  • Exposure to machine elements (bearings, gears, belts, chains, pneumatics) (preferred)
  • Basic knowledge of GD&T (preferred)
  • Hands‑on experience in a shop, lab, or build environment (preferred)
  • Experience with automation, such as Arduino, PLCs (preferred)
