Job summary

MacDermid Alpha Electronics Solutions, a business segment of Element Solutions Inc., in Chicago is seeking a Mechanical/Mechatronics Engineer to support the design, development, and assembly of custom machines and automated equipment. You will create 3D models, drawings, perform basic calculations, and collaborate with process, manufacturing, controls, IT, and facilities to ensure reliable production.

Travel will be 30–40% domestically and internationally; a bachelor’s degree and CAD skills are

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or related field.
  • Familiarity with CAD software (SolidWorks, Inventor, AutoCAD).
  • Basic understanding of manufacturing and mechanical components.
  • Ability to read engineering drawings; training provided as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Assist senior engineers in the design and layout of custom machines and mechanical assemblies.
  • Create and update 3D models, layouts, and 2D drawings using CAD software.
  • Learn and apply basic engineering calculations related to loads, motion, tolerances, and component sizing.
  • Manufacturing engineering support and collaboration with process and manufacturing teams.
  • Develop fixtures and tooling with mechanical design teams (SolidWorks preferred).
  • Support qualification activities including IQ/OQ/PQ for regulated environments.

Who are we looking for?

The Engineer will support the design, development,and assembly team in commissioningcustom machines and automated equipment.This role will giveengineersseeking hands-on exposure to machine design, manufacturing, and system integration the opportunity to workclosely with experienced engineers, technicians, andcross ‑ functionalteams.

What will you be doing?

Assistsenior engineers in the design and layout of custom machines and mechanical assemblies

Create and update 3D models, layouts, and 2D drawings using CAD software

Learn and apply basic engineering calculations related to loads, motion, tolerances, andcomponentsizing

What will you be doing?
  • Manufacturing Engineering Support

Collaborate with process and manufacturing engineers toidentifyautomation opportunities and ROI justifications

Develop fixture and tooling requirements in coordination with mechanical design teams (SolidWorks preferred)

Support qualification activities including IQ/OQ/PQ for regulated or precision manufacturing environments

Troubleshoot and resolve integration issues during production ramp, minimizing downtime

What will you be doing?
  • Project Execution & Documentation

Own integration project plans from scope definition through production handoff

Maintain accurate documentation: wiring diagrams, functional design specs, I/O lists, and revision-controlled work instructions

Work closely with controls, IT, and facilities to ensure infrastructure requirements (power, networking, safety) are met

Lead cross-functional reviews and communicate project status to engineering management and stakeholders

Who are You?

Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering,Mechatronics Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering,Computer Science Engineering

Familiarity with CAD software (SolidWorks, Inventor, AutoCAD)

Basic understanding of manufacturing and mechanical components

Ability to read engineering drawings (training provided as needed)

Abilitytotravel domesticallyandinternationally (30%-40% international travel)

Who are you?

Preferred (Not Required)

Exposure to machine elements (bearings, gears, belts, chains, pneumatics)

Basic knowledge of GD&T

Hands ‑ onexperience in a shop, lab, or build environment.

Experience with automation,such as Arduino, PLCs
