Job description

Plant Finance Manager - U.S. Manufacturing

Location: Spartanburg, South Carolina

Build the Finance Function for a New U.S. Manufacturing Operation

An established global manufacturing organization is launching its first U.S. manufacturing operation in Spartanburg, South Carolina and is seeking a Plant Finance Manager to take ownership of the finance and commercial function supporting the new facility.

This is not a traditional role where you step into a mature finance department and simply maintain established processes. It is an opportunity to become the senior finance leader for a growing U.S. operation, working alongside Operations, Supply Chain, HR, Sales and senior global finance leadership.

We are looking for someone with a strong foundation in manufacturing finance and product costing who is ready for the next step in their career-broader responsibility, greater visibility and the opportunity to help build a finance function.

What You'll Do

As the senior finance lead for the U.S. business, you will provide the financial leadership, analysis and commercial insight needed to support both manufacturing operations and the broader organization.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Own the financial performance and reporting for the U.S. manufacturing operation while supporting the sales business.
  • Lead manufacturing cost accounting, including product costing, cost rolls, variance analysis and factory performance reporting.
  • Partner closely with Operations and Production leadership to identify cost drivers, improve efficiencies and translate financial information into actionable business decisions.
  • Lead the annual budgeting process and monthly forecasting.
  • Manage cash flow, including oversight of accounts payable and accounts receivable.
  • Maintain strong controls over operating and capital expenditures.
  • Provide financial and commercial analysis to support continuous improvement and profitability initiatives.
  • Help manufacturing managers and supervisors better understand the financial drivers affecting plant performance.
  • Serve as the local finance contact for banking and other finance-related matters.
  • Support U.S. reporting, statutory and tax requirements.
  • Coordinate with external auditors.
  • Work closely with global finance leadership.
  • As the operation grows, help develop and lead a small U.S. finance team.

What We're Looking For

The most important qualification is hands-on finance and costing experience within a manufacturing environment.

An ideal candidate will bring:

  • Approximately 4-8 years of progressive accounting or finance experience, ideally within manufacturing or FMCG.
  • Strong knowledge of manufacturing/product costing, cost variances and operational financial analysis.
  • Experience working with an ERP system in a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong Excel and analytical skills.
  • Working knowledge of U.S. financial practices and the ability to help guide the organization on local finance, reporting, tax, banking and credit matters.
  • Experience with budgeting, forecasting and financial performance reporting.
  • A bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting or a related discipline is preferred; substantial relevant experience may also be considered.
  • EPICOR Kinetic experience would be helpful but is not required.

Previous people-management experience is not essential. We are more interested in your ability and potential to grow into broader leadership responsibility.

The Person Who Will Thrive Here

Technical capability is important, but this opportunity requires more than accounting skills.

You will be joining a growing manufacturing operation where not every process or answer will already be waiting for you. You'll need to be someone who is comfortable rolling up your sleeves, solving problems and taking ownership.

We are looking for someone who:

  • Is hands-on and willing to get into the details.
  • Takes personal accountability for results and deadlines.
  • Is resilient and comfortable in a fast-moving, evolving environment.
  • Works independently without requiring extensive direction.
  • Is proactive and sees challenges as opportunities to improve the business.
  • Can translate financial analysis into practical recommendations.
  • Communicates effectively with everyone from plant-floor leadership to senior executives.
  • Wants to build something rather than simply inherit it.

Why This Opportunity?

For the right person, the attraction of this position is the scope, visibility and career opportunity.

You may currently be a Plant Accountant, Senior Cost Accountant, Senior Financial Analyst, Operations Finance Analyst, Assistant Controller or similar manufacturing-finance professional who has developed strong technical skills but is ready for more.

Here, you will have the opportunity to move beyond owning one piece of the finance function and begin taking responsibility for the full financial picture of a U.S. manufacturing business.

You'll work directly with the local management team and have exposure to senior global finance leadership while developing toward broader leadership responsibilities as the U.S. organization grows.

While you will have significant ownership, you won't be building the operation without support. The parent organization is making a substantial commitment to the U.S. business and will provide international resources and hands-on support during the startup and ramp-up period, including training on the company's EPICOR Kinetic ERP environment.

The Opportunity Ahead

This is an opportunity to join a global organization at an important point in the development of its U.S. operations.

If you've built your finance career in manufacturing and are ready to move from contributing to the finance function to helping lead it, this could be an exceptional next step.
