Job summary

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Troubleshoot, repair, and maintain mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, automation, and production systems.
• Execute preventive and predictive maintenance activities to maximize equipment availability and performance.
• Plan and implement equipment upgrades, process improvements, new installations, and commissioning activities.
• Identify and resolve issues impacting safety, quality, or throughput.
• Lead maintenance and continuous improvement initiatives focused on reliability, productivity, and operational performance.
• Plan, schedule, document, and execute maintenance activities using established maintenance management processes.
• Develop strategies to improve asset management, maintenance planning, spare parts control, and equipment performance.
• Provide technical expertise and support for manufacturing and engineering teams.
• Support Global Manufacturing System (GMS), lean manufacturing, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Job Description The Role At General Motors, we’re advancing the future of propulsion through innovation, advanced manufacturing, and engineering excellence. The Artisan Innovation Center supports gear center and eMotor development through prototype, development, and ultra-low-volume manufacturing operations. As a Manufacturing Equipment Reliability Specialist, you will maintain, improve, and commission advanced production equipment supporting critical development and manufacturing activities. This is a highly hands-on role focused on equipment reliability, technical problem solving, and continuous improvement.

Working across mechanical, electrical, controls, automation, and manufacturing systems, you’ll help ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operation of specialized production equipment while contributing to future propulsion technologies.

This Role Is Ideal For Maintenance professionals, automation technicians, electricians, and mechanical specialists who enjoy solving complex equipment challenges, improving production processes, and working directly with advanced manufacturing technologies. You’ll thrive in this role if you enjoy hands‑on troubleshooting, equipment upgrades, and continuous improvement.

Work Arrangement – Onsite This role is categorized as onsite. The successful candidate is expected to report to Pontiac on a full-time basis. The position primarily supports first‑shift operations, with flexibility to support weekend and off‑shift activities as needed.

What You'll Do

Serve as the hands‑on technical expert supporting Gear Center and eMotor development and low‑volume production operations.

• Troubleshoot, repair, and maintain mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, automation, and production systems.
• Execute preventive and predictive maintenance activities to maximize equipment availability and performance.
• Plan and implement equipment upgrades, process improvements, new installations, and commissioning activities.

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)

• Experience troubleshooting and repairing electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, or automated equipment.
• Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, and technical documentation.
• Experience leading equipment repairs, upgrades, or manufacturing improvement projects.
• Strong problem‑solving skills with the ability to implement sustainable corrective actions.
• Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate across maintenance, engineering, and manufacturing teams.
• Technical degree, four-year apprenticeship, Journeyman certification, or equivalent industrial maintenance experience.

What Will Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)

• Experience supporting automotive, prototype, or advanced manufacturing environments.
• Experience with Allen Bradley or Siemens PLCs, controls systems, and industrial automation equipment.
• Experience with robotics, vision systems, conveyors, or automated manufacturing processes.
• Working knowledge of MAXIMO or similar computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS).
• Experience commissioning new equipment, process systems, or production technologies.
• Experience applying Lean Manufacturing, Kaizen, Red X, or other structured problem‑solving methodologies.
• Experience supporting electric motor, propulsion, drivetrain, or precision machining operations.
