Job summary

Actalent is seeking a Manufacturing Equipment Engineer in Weirton, WV to own performance and reliability of high-volume manufacturing equipment. You will define OEE metrics, lead improvement projects, and provide floor support to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operations.

Ideal candidates bring 7+ years in equipment engineering, a relevant engineering degree, and hands-on troubleshooting across mechanical and electrical systems.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of equipment engineering in a production/manufacturing setting.
• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Robotics, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
• Strong knowledge of manufacturing equipment (furnaces, web or powder handling, mixers, welders, laminators).
• Experience owning equipment systems in a production environment.
• Hands-on troubleshooting under production pressure for mechanical/electrical/system issues.
• Ability to define, track, and interpret equipment performance metrics (OEE).
• Proficiency in CAD design/drawings for equipment solutions.
• Strong problem-solving with data-driven decisions and cross-functional collaboration.

Job Title: Manufacturing Equipment Engineer

The Manufacturing Equipment Engineer will own the performance, reliability, and continuous improvement of manufacturing equipment in a high-volume production environment. This role focuses on defining and implementing equipment performance metrics, leading equipment-focused improvement projects, and providing hands-on support on the manufacturing floor to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operations.

Responsibilities

• Own the performance, reliability, and continuous improvement of manufacturing equipment in a high-volume production environment.
• Define and implement Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) and other equipment performance metrics to identify loss drivers and prioritize improvement work.
• Analyze production data and downtime trends and translate them into clear problem statements, project scopes, and actionable execution plans.
• Lead equipment-focused improvement projects, including mechanical modifications, tooling changes, fixturing updates, and station layout optimizations.
• Create and maintain CAD designs and drawings to develop hardware solutions that improve reliability, ergonomics, quality, and throughput.
• Respond to production events with a root-cause, system-level mindset and coordinate mechanical, electrical, and controls actions to restore and enhance performance.
• Support the installation, commissioning, and ramp-up of new equipment, including active participation in design reviews, Factory Acceptance Tests (FATs), and Site Acceptance Tests (SATs) from an equipment owner perspective.
• Optimize equipment parameters and station configurations in collaboration with production and quality teams to improve process capability and consistency.
• Provide hands-on floor support to resolve equipment issues quickly and establish standards and best practices to reduce repeat issues.
• Collaborate closely with equipment, controls, manufacturing, quality, and operations teams to drive timely execution and deliver measurable results.

Essential Skills

• 7+ years of applicable experience in equipment engineering within a production or manufacturing environment.
• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Robotics, Electrical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
• Strong understanding of manufacturing equipment such as furnaces, web or powder handling equipment, mixers, resistance welders, and laminators.
• Demonstrated experience with equipment system ownership in a production or manufacturing setting.
• Strong hands-on troubleshooting skills with the ability to diagnose mechanical, electrical, and system-level issues under production pressure.
• Ability to define, track, and interpret equipment performance metrics, including OEE, to drive data-informed decisions.
• Proficiency in creating and maintaining CAD designs and drawings for equipment and hardware solutions.
• Proven ability to translate production and downtime data into clear problem statements and structured improvement projects.
• Effective collaboration skills to work across equipment, controls, manufacturing, quality, and operations teams.
• Strong root-cause analysis skills and a system-level mindset when responding to production events.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience leading equipment-focused improvement projects involving mechanical, tooling, fixturing, and station layout changes.
• Familiarity with optimizing equipment parameters and station configurations in coordination with production and quality teams.
• Experience supporting equipment installation, commissioning, and ramp-up, including participation in design reviews, FATs, and SATs.
• Comfort working in a high-volume manufacturing environment with frequent on-the-floor engagement.
• Ability to establish and document standards and best practices to prevent repeat equipment issues.
• Strong communication skills to clearly convey technical issues, plans, and results to cross-functional stakeholders.

Work Environment

This is an on-site position with the majority of work performed on the manufacturing floor in a high-volume production environment. The role involves frequent hands-on interaction with manufacturing equipment such as furnaces, web or powder handling equipment, mixers, resistance welders, and laminators. The Equipment Engineer will regularly collaborate with production, quality, controls, and operations teams in a fast-paced setting that requires quick response to production events and active participation in equipment installation, commissioning, and optimization activities.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Weirton, WV.

Pay And Benefits

The pay range for this position is $45.00 - $70.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
