Job summary

Nammo Defense Systems Inc. is looking for a Manufacturing Equipment Design Engineer in Perry, Florida. The engineer will maintain and troubleshoot automated and semi-automated equipment while ensuring that production and quality standards are met efficiently.

The ideal candidate should have advanced 3D design capabilities with at least 8 years of experience, preferably in Autodesk Inventor, and a background in designing automated assembly machines.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent combination of experience and work preferable but not required.
  • Minimum of 8 years of advanced 3D design capability, preferably in Autodesk Inventor.
  • At least 5 years designing and maintaining automated assembly machines.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and coordinate design and fabrication of production equipment.
  • Evaluate existing mechanical and pneumatic systems for efficiency improvements.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to write detailed procurement scopes.
  • Maintain equipment by coordinating maintenance and repair services.
  • Assist with troubleshooting and repairing production equipment.

Nammo Perry is a center of excellence for the design, development and production of munitions and pyrotechnic products for the U.S. Department of Defense. Nammo employees working at the Florida site manufacture all types of 40mm low and high velocity ammunition; pyrotechnic marking; signaling and tactical illumination devices; battlefield effects training simulators; demolition charges; hand grenade fuzes; and other ammunition components. Additionally, they provide load, assemble, and pack (LAP) services for large caliber direct-fire ammunition.

The Manufacturing Equipment Design Engineer will assist in maintaining and troubleshooting issues with our automated and semi-automated equipment. Make improvements to equipment to insure we efficiently meet our production, quality, and safety requirements.

What You’ll Do: Precision in Action
  • Plan and coordinate special projects, including design and fabrication of production equipment (automated and semi-automated assembly and secondary machines, etc.), material selection and tooling requirements.
  • Evaluate existing mechanical, electromechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems for improved yield and throughput.
  • Develop mechanical/electromechanical fixtures and machines by studying customer requirements.
  • Collaborate with Quality and Process Engineers, and other departments to obtain necessary requirements for writing detailed scopes for the procurement of new equipment.
  • Assures system and product quality by confirming fabrication, assembly, and installation processes.
  • Keeps equipment operational by coordinating maintenance and repair services; following manufacturer's instructions and established procedures; requesting special services.
  • Estimate tooling cost from design through fabrication.
  • Coordinate with machine vendor through concept, design, fabrication, runoff, and setup of equipment.
  • Maintain adherence to Company policies and procedures, safety and environmental standards, and good housekeeping practices.
  • Assist maintenance with troubleshooting and repairing production equipment.
  • Other duties as assigned.
What Dedicated Teammates Bring
  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent combination of experience and work preferable but not required.
  • Advanced 3D Design capability preferably Autodesk Inventor 2024 with a minimum of 8 years’ experience.
  • Designing and maintaining automated assembly machines with a minimum of 5 years’ experience. (Swanson, Bodine, or similar carousel type assembly machines)
  • Knowledge of hydraulics systems.
  • Knowledge of pneumatics systems.
  • Ability to interpret all types of mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic drawings.
  • Ability to follow projects through to completion.
  • Ability to follow PLC code.
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Excellent organizational and computer skills.
  • Good interpersonal skills.
  • Self-starter, ability to work independently to meet specified deadlines.
