Job summary

Jobtailor in San Diego, CA seeks an experienced Manufacturing Engineer to optimize assembly processes for electromechanical products. You will guide manufacturability, review BOMs, interpret drawings and specifications, and implement ECO changes.

This role supports prototypes, pre-production builds, and manufacturing transfers with a focus on cost reduction and quality. The ideal candidate has a BS in engineering, 5+ years in electromechanical production/testing, and strong knowledge of GD&T,

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Manufacturing, Industrial, Mechanical, or Aerospace Engineering (master’s degree often preferred).
  • Minimum of five years’ applicable experience in the production and testing of electromechanical assemblies.
  • Deep understanding of quality control fundamentals like GD&T, SPC, FMEA, Control Plans, and Lean Six Sigma methodologies.
  • Experience with workflow processes in the fabrication, assembly and testing of electromechanical systems and components; knowledge of statistical process control methods; knowledge of design for manufacturability principles; must be computer literate; excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.

Job description

Responsibilities
  • Ensure effective use of material, equipment and personnel in producing quality products at minimum cost
  • Provide guidance regarding design for manufacturability
  • DFM/DFA reviews & feedback to design
  • Assembly process feasibility assessment

  • Drawing & specification interpretation
  • Engineering change order (ECO) review & implementation
  • Prototype & pre‑production build support
  • Assembly process development & optimization
  • Assembly tooling & fixture design / procurement
  • First production build support & issue resolution
  • Determine and specify requirements for special assembly machines, equipment and tooling
  • Torque, adhesive & critical process parameter control
  • Operator training material development
  • Continuous improvement & cost reduction initiatives
  • Manufacturing transfer package preparation to include Standardized Work Instructions for off‑site Asia manufacturing facilities
  • Tooling & fixture documentation packages
  • BOM & configuration control for transfer
  • Asia site launch readiness assessment to include on‑site launch support, ramp assistance and operator & technician training delivery
  • ECO change communication & update management
  • Post‑launch issue support & sustaining documentation
  • Schedule and implement process improvements focused on defect reduction, cost reduction and assembly optimization throughout the manufacturing process
  • Manage utilization of SPC data to direct process improvement focus of the Manufacturing Engineering department
  • Responsible for supervision, guidance and technical support for the Manufacturing Engineering department
Requirements
  • Education: Bachelor of Science in Manufacturing, Industrial, Mechanical, or Aerospace Engineering (master’s degree often preferred)

  • Technical Expertise: Deep understanding of quality control fundamentals like GD&T, SPC, FMEA, Control Plans, and Lean Six Sigma methodologies
