Position Summary

The Engineering Manager is responsible for leading and developing the Engineering team in support of safe, efficient, and high-quality automotive manufacturing operations. This position oversees engineering activities related to the design, development, testing, and implementation of solutions that improve manufacturing processes, equipment, product quality, productivity, and operational performance.

The Engineering Manager provides technical and organizational leadership to the department, including responsibility for departmental budgets, project planning, capital investment, and achievement of established engineering objectives. This position also leads and supports kaizen and continuous improvement initiatives by identifying operational deficiencies and recommending improvements to equipment, processes, training, and working practices.

Position Responsibilities

The incumbent is expected to perform the following functions that the company has determined are essential to this position:

  • Lead, supervise, and develop the Engineering team to support manufacturing objectives and drive functional excellence.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of engineering strategies, policies, processes, procedures, and best practices designed to improve operational performance.
  • Monitor and evaluate Engineering team performance and provide coaching, feedback, and guidance to support employee development and departmental effectiveness.
  • Develop and maintain engineering project plans, schedules, and budget profiles to ensure milestones are achieved within established cost targets and timelines.
  • Manage departmental budgets and support effective allocation of engineering resources.
  • Identify, evaluate, and justify capital equipment investments based on operational, technical, quality, safety, and business requirements.
  • Provide technical input and engineering support for new business opportunities, product launches, and other organizational initiatives.
  • Ensure the accuracy and integrity of production engineering data, analysis, technical documentation, and related records.
  • Monitor developments in manufacturing technology and engineering practices that may affect manufacturing design, equipment, or processes and communicate potential impacts to appropriate stakeholders.
  • Lead and support kaizen and continuous improvement initiatives to improve manufacturing processes, equipment performance, quality, productivity, efficiency, and safety.
  • Identify deficiencies in manufacturing processes, working practices, or training and recommend appropriate corrective or improvement actions.
  • Ensure engineering processes, procedures, equipment, and activities are performed in accordance with applicable health, safety, and environmental policies and requirements.
  • Provide technical leadership and support in resolving manufacturing and factory-related issues.
  • Coordinate with Operations and other departments to identify solutions and ensure timely resolution of engineering and production concerns.
  • Negotiate, coordinate, and request support from internal departments, suppliers, contractors, and other external parties as necessary to achieve Engineering and organizational objectives.
  • Collaborate with other departments to promote a workplace culture focused on respect, inclusivity, efficiency, safety, quality, and continuous improvement.
  • Perform other duties, projects, and responsibilities as assigned by management.
Required Skills and Abilities

Essential Skills and Experience:

  • Minimum of five (5) years of manufacturing experience.

  • Ability to analyze technical and operational issues and develop effective solutions.
  • Ability to evaluate and justify capital equipment and manufacturing investments.

  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to communicate technical information effectively to management, manufacturing personnel, and other stakeholders.
