Job summary

Pratt & Whitney in the United States (Iowa, Manchester) invites enrolled engineering students for a co-op/internship in industrial and manufacturing engineering. You will work onsite with engineers and operators to improve product flow, quality, and safety, using laser machines, 3D printers and fixtures.

You will learn aerospace manufacturing processes, develop fixtures, identify root causes of defects, and participate in continuous improvement initiatives while balancing multiple projects.

Qualifications

• This internship requires actively pursuing a bachelor’s degree in a relevant engineering field and completion of at least 60 credit hours before start.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with engineers and operators to resolve product flow, quality, ergonomics, and safety issues.
• Develop or improve fixtures or tooling for manufacturing processes using laser machines and 3D printers.
• Identify root causes of defects and process inefficiencies and implement corrective actions.

What You Will Do

• Work with Industrial Engineers, production floor operators, and manufacturing support staff to resolve issues related to product flow, quality, ergonomics, and safety using state-of-the-art manufacturing techniques.
• Develop or improve designs for fixtures or tooling to aid in manufacturing processes, including building, verifying, and implementing those fixtures using laser machines, 3D printers, and other manufacturing equipment.
• Identify root causes of manufacturing defects and process inefficiencies, and implement effective corrective actions.
• Program and operate manufacturing equipment such as laser machines and 3D printers to support fixture development.
• Assist in the development and implementation of continuous improvement initiatives.

Qualifications You Must Have

• Actively pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Systems Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related STEM major through the completion of the co-op session. Completed at least 60 credit hours prior to the start of the internship/co-op session.

Qualifications We Prefer

• Experience using Microsoft Office products (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access).
• Experience with SolidWorks modeling.
• Experience with VBA or other scripting languages.
• Knowledge or experience with 3D modeling or laser cutting.

This position is classified as: Onsite: Employees who are working in Onsite roles will work primarily onsite. This includes all production and maintenance employees, as they are essential to the development of our products. The salary range for this role is 37,000 USD - 82,000 USD.
