Job summary

SpaceX is seeking a Manufacturing Engineer for Raptor valve machining to design and scale production processes for critical hardware, collaborating with design, machinists, and quality teams. You will drive DFM updates, develop robust process controls, and aim for high reliability and on-time delivery in a fast-paced aerospace setting.

The role requires hands-on work on the factory floor, with opportunities for growth and involvement in aerospace production execution from R&D to volume

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or physics.
  • 1+ years of manufacturing experience (student projects/internships qualify).
  • Strong machining concepts and hardware experience.
  • Fast-paced, problem-solving environment.
  • Experience in design or product development engineering.
  • Master's degree in mechanical/manufacturing/aerospace engineering.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects in parallel.
  • Mechanical component and tooling design/analysis (3D CAD).
  • Experience from R&D to volume manufacturing.
  • Experience writing work instructions for aerospace parts.
  • Experience in aerospace production environment.

Responsibilities

  • Identify, develop, and implement machining processes to help solve for engine cost, quality, and production rate.
  • Collaborate with design, machinists, technicians, and quality to ensure robust processes.
  • Partner with design to implement DFM updates and manage production changes.
  • Implement machining process controls for lights-out production.
  • Ensure part quality meeting dimensions with low overhead.
  • Develop tools to show capability in SPC environments.
  • Oversee full machining cycle: fixture design, CAM programming, tooling selection, and inspection.
  • Continuously challenge processes to improve manufacturability and reliability.
  • Coordinate with production to deliver hardware on schedule.
  • Oversee introduction of new products and revisions.
