Job summary

OptoSigma is seeking a Manufacturing Engineer to develop and improve processes for precision opto-mechanical assemblies. You will work with production, quality, and design teams to drive efficiency, yield, and repeatability on the shop floor.

You will lead process documentation, tooling design, and process controls, partnering with design to ensure manufacturability and supporting data-driven improvements across production lines.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree and 5+ years of directly relevant experience.
• Experience in precision, electro-mechanical, or similar manufacturing environments.
• Proficiency in reading drawings and applying GD&T, BOM management, and DOE tools.

Responsibilities

• Develop and document manufacturing processes, work instructions, and fixtures for precision assembly.
• Lead root-cause investigations and implement corrective actions.
• Support capacity planning, line balancing, and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Design and implement jigs, fixtures, and tooling to improve throughput.
• Collaborate with Quality to refine inspection criteria and process controls.
• Train production staff on new or updated processes.
• Partner with design engineering to ensure manufacturability (DFM/DFA).
• Analyze production data to identify bottlenecks and yield losses.

About The Role

We're looking for a Manufacturing Engineer to develop, improve, and support the processes used to build precision opto-mechanical assemblies and components. This person will work closely with production, quality, and design engineering teams to drive efficiency, yield, and repeatability across the manufacturing floor. We're looking for someone energetic and eager to jump into a wide variety of projects, bringing enthusiasm to solving new problems as they come up.

What You'll Do

What We're Looking For

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Industrial Engineering, Physics, or related field with 5+ years of directly relevant experience.
• Experience supporting manufacturing or assembly operations in a precision, electro-mechanical, or similar industry.
• Strong problem-solving skills with a hands-on, floor-based approach to process improvement.
• Familiarity with reading engineering drawings, Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T), and management/creation of Bills of Materials (BOMs).
• Comfortable working directly with production technicians and cross-functional teams.
• Experience with Design of Experiments (DOE) and root cause analysis tools (5 Why, fishbone, etc.).

Nice to Have (Not Required)

• Experience in optics, photonics, or precision instrument manufacturing.
• Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or continuous improvement methodologies.
• Experience with fixture/tooling design and basic CAD.
