Job description

Please review the job details below. Lanteris Space is seeking a Manufacturing Engineer to join our aerospace metal machine shop, where we produce precision‑machined components to AS9100 quality standards for commercial, defense, and space customers for our office in San Jose, California. This role is the technical link between engineering design and the shop floor. You will use PTC Creo to model parts, fixtures, and tooling, develop robust manufacturing processes for CNC milling, turning, and multi‑axis machining of aluminum, titanium, stainless steel, and nickel‑based alloys, and drive continuous improvement in cycle time, quality, and cost. The ideal candidate is hands‑on, comfortable on the shop floor, and fluent in reading and interpreting aerospace drawings, GD&T, and customer specifications. Develop detailed process plans, routings, and operation sheets for new and existing part numbers. Define setups, work‑holding, datum schemes, and inspection points that ensure repeatable, first‑article‑ready production. Support First Article Inspection (AS9102) packages. Participate in nonconformance investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective action activities. Provide real‑time technical support to machinists, programmers, and inspectors to resolve production issues. Support quoting and estimating by providing manufacturability feedback, process time estimates, and tooling cost projections. Provide design for manufacturability (DFM) feedback to customers when appropriate.

Minimum Requirements
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or a permanent resident.
  • Bachelor's degree in Manufacturing, Mechanical, or Industrial Engineering (or 4 years of additional experience may be substituted in lieu of a degree).
  • 3 years of manufacturing engineering experience in a machine shop environment, preferably aerospace or defense.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Strong working knowledge of CNC machining processes and machining of aerospace metals.
  • Solid understanding of GD&T, blueprint reading, and precision inspection methods (CMM, calipers, micrometers, gauges).
  • Knowledge of special processes (heat treat, anodize, passivation, NDT) and their coordination.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
  • Clear written and verbal communication.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and shifting priorities.
  • Attention to detail in a regulated, high‑precision environment.
  • Comfortable working between the office and the shop floor.
