Job description

SUMMARY

At Kollmorgen, our mission is to be the best at solving the most demanding motion challenges through collaboration with our end users, customers, suppliers, innovation partners, and each other. We are seeking a qualified Manufacturing Engineering Manager.

The Manufacturing Engineering Manager is a key member of the operations team, responsible for leading the Operations Manufacturing Engineering group to improve safety, quality, delivery, and productivity. This role is pivotal in transforming manufacturing processes to achieve breakthrough quality and continuous improvement in productivity and costs through VAVE. The position is based in Radford, VA.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Make resourcing decisions and assign Manufacturing Engineers to support production needs and process improvements.
  2. Establish and maintain career development paths within the Manufacturing Engineering team, including individual talent development plans.
  3. Define project scope, develop plans, and oversee process improvements and manufacturing capability expansions.
  4. Build and manage the Capital Expenditure project pipeline and oversee implementation of selected projects.
  5. Provide technical leadership in motor and electronics design for manufacturability and process development.
  6. Implement lean methodologies and variation reduction techniques in existing processes.
  7. Mentor and develop the Manufacturing Engineering team’s knowledge and skills.
  8. Measure and improve team KPIs such as Yield, Productivity, Scrap, and On-Time Delivery (OTD).

  • Ability to collaborate effectively across all levels and functions.
  • Experience in developing and mentoring engineering and technician teams.

Education and Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field.
  • At least 5 years of experience in motor or electronics manufacturing or design.
  • Project management experience in manufacturing process development or cell commissioning.
  • Experience with Lean tools such as 6-sigma, Single Piece Flow, Variation Reduction, Standard Work, Value Stream Mapping, 5S.
  • Willingness to travel for site support, benchmarking, or supplier development.
  • This role requires U.S. Persons per ITAR regulations (U.S. Citizens, Green Card holders, Asylees, Refugees).

Preferred Skills and Experience:

  • Master’s degree in Engineering or related field.
  • Over 3 years of leadership experience.
  • More than 10 years in production or manufacturing, preferably in electric motor components.

Physical Demands and Work Environment:
