Job summary

United States Digital Space LLC is seeking a Manufacturing Engineer (MACHINING) in Hawthorne, CA. You will own the interface between engineering and production, driving design input and manufacturing integration for current and next-generation space hardware.

You’ll support design and process improvements, analyze discrepancies with root cause actions, and manage BOMs, work instructions, and specs to ensure on-time delivery and quality.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline or physics.
  • 1+ years of hands-on experience in design, development, manufacturing or test.

Responsibilities

  • Provide engineering support for design and process improvements to improve manufacturing efficiency, ensure product quality, and lower costs.
  • Analyze and dispositions recurring manufacturing discrepancies with root cause analysis and corrective actions.
  • Create and manage manufacturing BOMs, work instructions, and specifications.
  • Communicate daily with production, machining, maintenance, quality, and design engineering to ensure on-time delivery and correct quantities.
  • Lead projects for alternate component technologies to reduce cost or improve quality and reliability.

MANUFACTURING ENGINEER (MACHINING)

As a manufacturing engineer at the company, you will have the opportunity to utilize your knowledge, experience, and creativity to develop novel solutions at the cutting edge of space technology. You will work on hardware that will deliver satellites into Earth orbit, ferry humans to and from the International Space Station, and ultimately extend humanity’s reach beyond the Earth and Moon. You will own the relationship between our engineering and production teams. You will provide input into the design and development of new and existing hardware and take a lead role in manufacturing and integration within production on our current and next-generation vehicles.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Provide engineering support for product design and process improvements to improve manufacturing efficiency, ensure product quality, and lower costs for new and existing products
  • Analyze and disposition recurring manufacturing discrepancies and interface with the quality team on root cause analysis and corrective actions
  • Create and manage manufacturing BOMs, work instructions, and specifications
  • Communicate on a daily basis with supporting departments such as production, machining, maintenance, quality, and design engineering to ensure that product is delivered on time to the correct quantities
  • Use project management skills and tools to investigate and lead projects for alternate component technologies for reduced cost or improved quality and reliability
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline or physics
  • 1+ years of of hands-on experience in design, development, manufacturing or test (internship and project team experience is applicable)
PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
  • Master's degree in an engineering discipline
  • Experience with CNC machinery (lathe, mill, waterjet, laser cutter, EDM)

Experience with CAM programming (Hypermill, MasterCAM, ESPRIT, NX)

  • Geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) experience
  • CAD experience (NX & Teamcenter)
  • Tooling design experience
  • Design for manufacturability and assembly experience
  • Experience with capacity modeling, process mapping, and fault analysis
  • Experience with Lean Six Sigma or equivalent high-performance culture systems
  • Pareto analysis, root cause, and corrective action experience
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Must be able to work extended hours and weekends as needed
  • Must be able to work onsite in Hawthorne, CA - remote work not considered
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:

Pay Range:Level 1: $100,000.00 - $130,000.00Level 2: $115,000.00 - $160,000.00

Your actual level and base salary will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on the following considerations: job-related knowledge and skills, education, and experience.

Base salary is just one part of your total rewards package at the company. You may also be eligible for long-term incentives, in the form of company stock or long-term cash awards, as well as potential discretionary bonuses and the ability to purchase additional stock at a discount through an Employee Stock Purchase Plan.
