Job summary

Ford Motor Company is building a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Michigan and seeks a hands-on leader to launch it from the ground up. You’ll lead a data-driven team to optimize highly automated equipment and processes, while driving Six Sigma initiatives and ensuring safety standards across shifts.

The role demands 3–5 years of manufacturing experience, strong communication, and the ability to work across multiple departments.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related technical field.
  • 3–5 years of relevant manufacturing experience (automotive or battery cell preferred).
  • Experience with 2D & 3D vision systems for robot guidance, metrology, and identification.

Responsibilities

  • Optimize & Innovate: provide technical expertise to optimize highly automated manufacturing equipment and processes.
  • Systems Integration: manage interaction between systems and upper-level computers; configure parameters for varying production loads.
  • PM planning and machine ownership: review PM plans and use data to reduce constraints in equipment.
  • KPI tracking and development: track department KPIs using electronic tools and complex algorithms.
  • Continuous Improvement: use Andon data to prioritise efforts to achieve 100% flow and lead Six Sigma projects.
  • Technical Collaboration: act as a bridge between departments to ensure equipment performance.
  • Maintenance Support: establish preventive maintenance plans and mentor technicians.
  • Standards & Safety: ensure FPS and Safety Operating System adherence to achieve zero injuries.
  • Life Cycle Management: support product design changes and program backups for automation.

What you’ll do…

  • Optimize & Innovate: Provide technical expertise to optimize highly automated manufacturing equipment and processes through systemic approach solutions, automation, and advanced levels of process control.
  • Systems Integration: Manage the interaction between systems, upper-level computers; configure parameters appropriately for varying production loads.
  • PM planning and machine ownership: Review the performance of PM plan and effectiveness using machine data, improvement and constraint reduction of process equipment using Ford Motor Company Operating Systems.
  • KPI tracking and development: Track and improve department KPIs using electronic tools and complex algorithms to solve problems.
  • Continuous Improvement: Use Andon data to prioritize efforts to achieve 100% flow; lead Six Sigma project teams focused on efficiency, quality, and reliability.
  • Technical Collaboration: Act as a bridge on collaboration between different departments to ensure performance of the equipment.
  • Maintenance Support: Establish preventive maintenance plans for the equipment, electrical/controls aspects, and mentor/train technicians to enhance the team’s overall competence.
  • Standards & Safety: Ensure adherence to the Ford Production System (FPS) and Safety Operating System practices to achieve zero injuries.
  • Life Cycle Management: Support feasibility on product design changes and lead modifications, model code updates, and program backups for automation.

Candidates must possess full flexibility and a readiness to consistently work across all established standard, operating, and rotational shift schedules, encompassing day, night, weekend, and holiday shifts.

You’ll have…

  • Bachelor’s degree or above in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or related technical field.
  • 3-5 years of relevant professional experience in a manufacturing environment (automotive or battery cell manufacturing preferred).
  • Fundamental working knowledge of industrial process, PM planning, and machine safety standards.
  • Experience with 2D & 3D vision systems for robot guidance, metrology, and identification.
  • Ability to demonstrate leadership behaviors combined with outstanding interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work various shifts and hours, including weekends, and travel extensively (including internationally) as required for plant launch and support.

  • 5+ years of relevant Manufacturing Engineering experience.
  • Master’s Degree in Engineering.
  • Industry 4.0 Knowledge: Familiarity with Data Collection, AI/ML, IIOT, and Digital Twins.
  • Process Expertise: Experience with Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and FMEAs.
  • Software Skills: Office, Proficiency in AutoCAD, Planner.

This position is a salary grade 7 and ranges from $86,600-$144,900. Final determination of salary grade will be based on candidate's skills and experience, and base salary will be set within the applicable range according to job scope, responsibility and competitive market value.
