Job summary

Viant Medical in Wheeling, IL is seeking an experienced manufacturing engineer to oversee change projects, optimize processes, and enhance operator safety. The role emphasizes GMP compliance, lean manufacturing, and robust documentation.

You will evaluate existing equipment, lead NPI efforts, and collaborate with vendors to source parts. A Bachelor’s in engineering and 5+ years of relevant experience are required, with strong problem‑solving and statistical skills.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in Engineering role.
  • Medical, Aerospace, Pharma, or Military Mfg experience.
  • New Product Introduction experience.
  • Project impact experience.

Responsibilities

  • Follow GMPs as defined by Viant Medical’s SOPs.
  • Perform project management for manufacturing changes or new product methods and fixtures.
  • Evaluate existing machinery and processes for improvements in operator performance and ergonomics/safety.
  • Optimize floor layout and material flow; document improvements to efficiency and takt time.
  • Develop or revise technical documentation for manufacturing processes and equipment qualification.
  • Conduct R&D testing and validation to ensure quality standards.
  • Confirm conformance to designs and prepare safety reports.
  • Coordinate with vendors to specify products and arrange purchases; evaluate against specs and quality.
  • Use lean analytics to reduce cost, lead times, inventory, and defects.

We offer market competitive compensation. Potential salary range for this role is $90k-$120k. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law.

What you’ll do
  • Follow all manufacturing Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP’s) as defined by Viant Medical’s practices, policies and Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s)
  • Perform project management responsibilities for assigned manufacturing changes or new product methods, designs of production fixtures, and methods to monitor efficiency
  • Evaluate existing machinery and processes to recommend improvements that enhance both operator performance and ergonomics/safety of overall production
  • Optimize floor layout, material flow, along with implementation of lean concepts; document improvements to manufacturing efficiencies, takt time, floor space utilization and overhead
  • Develop or revise technical documentation to specify manufacturing processes; including documentation of equipment qualification, setup and maintenance procedure
  • Conduct research and development testing and validation to determine effectiveness and compliance to quality standards for the manufacturing processes
  • Confirm conformance to engineering designs and methodologies and verify overall safety and prepare reports on these activities
  • Confér with vendors to determine product specifications and arrange for purchase of equipment, materials, or parts, and evaluate products according to specifications and quality standards
  • Utilize proven lean manufacturing based analytical and troubleshooting/problem solving abilities to identify opportunities for cost reduction, lead‑time reduction, inventory reduction and quality improvement through defect reduction
  • Perform other duties as needed
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or related field
  • 5+ Years of experience in Engineering role
  • Medical, Aerospace, Pharma, or Military Mfg experience
  • New Product Introduction experience
  • Project impact experience
Skills / Competencies
  • Advanced understanding of ISO13485 standard (or equivalent), OSHA/Safety, Lean Six Sigma or Six Sigma Methodologies, PFMEA, Minitab, Oracle Configuration (or equivalent), Process/Equipment Validation, NPI (New Product Introduction), Root Cause Analysis and Solidworks
  • Good Manufacturing Practices
  • Designs of Experiments (DOE)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Software
  • Project Management and Lean Manufacturing experience
  • Excellent knowledge of statistical tools, ability to manage multiple tasks and appropriate use of Design of Experiments (DOE) when developing recommendations
  • SPC (Statistical Process Control) knowledge preferred
  • Must be flexible and adapt to changing environments and priorities
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Physical Requirements
  • Perform light, non‑strenuous administrative activities on a regular basis.
  • Occasionally lift up to 20 lbs. and carry up to 10 lbs.; may involve minimal bending, pushing/pulling, crawling, climbing, balancing, or standing for extended periods.
  • Maintain manual dexterity to handle and manipulate small items effectively.
  • Require visual acuity to distinguish colors, assess spatial relationships, and focus on fine details (e.g., using microscopes or similar equipment).
