Job description

We are seeking a Manufacturing Engineer II to develop, scale, and transfer advanced manufacturing processes while supporting equipment qualification, process optimization, and continuous improvement in a high-volume manufacturing environment. This role will serve as a technical resource for assigned processes and equipment while collaborating with cross-functional teams to improve safety, throughput, yield, quality, and overall performance.

Position Responsibilities
Process Development & Technology Scaling
  • Develop, scale, and transfer new and emerging manufacturing processes, including thin-film deposition, wet coatings and cleaning, laser processing, module packaging, lamination, and electrical testing.
  • Develop, improve, and document robust manufacturing processes.
  • Serve as a subject-matter expert for assigned process or equipment areas.
  • Support the transfer of new technologies from development into manufacturing.
Equipment Qualification & Support
  • Qualify and sustain new process equipment in a 24/7 manufacturing environment.
  • Work with equipment OEMs to evaluate, install, and qualify manufacturing tools.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical and process issues to improve equipment and manufacturing performance.
Process Improvement & Problem Solving
  • Participate in troubleshooting activities focused on safety, throughput, yield, and performance benchmarks.
  • Apply structured problem-solving methodologies such as DMAIC and 8D.
  • Use statistical methods, including DOE and SPC, to identify and implement process improvements.
  • Execute continuous improvement initiatives using Six Sigma methodologies.
Data Analysis & Process Optimization
  • Analyze manufacturing and equipment data to identify trends, opportunities, and root causes.
  • Utilize tools such as SQL, Python, JMP, and Power BI for data mining and visualization.
  • Design and execute experiments in laboratory and manufacturing environments.
  • Analyze experimental results and communicate recommendations to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Documentation & Process Control
  • Develop and maintain Process Control Plans, FMEAs, work instructions, and troubleshooting guides.
  • Ensure manufacturing processes are properly documented and controlled.
  • Maintain effective communication with operations, engineering, quality, EHS, and leadership teams.
Team Development
  • Mentor junior engineers and technicians.
  • Provide technical training and guidance to operational teams.
  • Collaborate effectively with cross-functional and global teams to resolve technical challenges.
Safety & Compliance
  • Follow all applicable safety procedures and protocols.
  • Contribute to EHS and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Promote safe and compliant manufacturing practices.
  • Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Prerequisites
  • Associate’s degree in engineering or a related technical discipline with significant relevant technical experience, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related technical discipline with approximately 5 years of relevant technical experience, or equivalent experience.
  • Master’s degree in engineering or a related technical discipline with approximately 3 years of relevant technical experience, or equivalent experience.
  • Ph.D. in engineering or a related technical discipline may be considered in lieu of professional experience.
  • Relevant experience in semiconductor, photovoltaic, advanced manufacturing, or similar R&D/manufacturing environments.
  • Experience in one or more of the following areas:
    • Thin-film deposition, including PVD, ALD, CVD, magnetron sputtering, or evaporation.
    • Thermal processing in semiconductor, glass, or similar industries.
    • Wet coating technologies such as ink‑jet, spray, roll, blade, or slot‑die coating.
    • Automation, robotics, or AGV material handling.
    • Laser processing, including scribing, cleaning, or marking.
    • Process or device integration.
  • Hands‑on experience with mechanical and process troubleshooting.
  • Hands‑on experience designing and executing experiments in laboratory or manufacturing environments.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively across technical, operational, and global teams.
  • Ability to work in a 24/7 manufacturing environment and comply with applicable safety requirements.
  • Willingness to travel approximately 10–20%.
Certifications (Preferred, but not Required)
  • Six Sigma or Lean Manufacturing certification.
  • Additional certifications in manufacturing engineering, process engineering, automation, or related technical disciplines.
  • Training or certification in statistical process control, experimental design, or advanced data analytics.
