Job summary

Collins Aerospace in West Des Moines, IA is seeking a Manufacturing Engineer to design and execute maintenance, repair and overhaul processes for aerospace products. You will plan, design and optimize manufacturing activities, working with cutting-edge tech and supporting 2nd shift hours from 3:30 PM to Midnight with potential earlier start times.

The role requires a STEM degree with 2+ years of relevant experience or an advanced degree, plus knowledge of lean principles, GD&T and 3D modeling.

Qualifications

Collins Aerospace is seeking a Manufacturing Engineer to join our Maintenance Repair & Overhaul (MRO) manufacturing facility in West Des Moines, IA. In this role, you will plan, design and execute activities that are directly related to the maintenance, repair & overhaul of Collins Aerospace products and the functional operation of Collins Aerospace facilities. This position offers an opportunity to work with cutting-edge technologies and contribute to the production of high-performance aerospace components.

This position supports our 2nd shift operations in West Des Moines, with typical hours of 3:30 PM–Midnight, Monday–Friday. However, the schedule may be adjusted to accommodate an earlier start time, as early as 1:00 PM–9:30 PM , based on preference. This position may be eligible for relocation assistance.

What You Will Do
  • Designs and develops manufacturing repair and overhaul processes for products, which may include new or revised processes.
  • Develops procedures for the economical product overhaul and repair in cooperation with the production department and FAA Repair Station requirements.
  • Conducts tests and measurements throughout stages of production to determine control over applicable variables; and services, troubleshoots and solves production process problems with processes or equipment already in operation.
  • May make recommendations concerning acquisition and use of new technological equipment and materials.
  • Proposes the sequence of operations and installations and specifies procedures for the fabrication of tools and equipment and other processes, which may include disassembly/assembly and repairs, to ensure efficiency and optimize performance.
  • Participates in the development of manufacturing processes that are applicable to statistical process control to ensure compliance and effective production.
  • Checks and validate that mandatory modifications, programs, and bulletins are incorporated or complied with, as required by the customer and the applicable regulatory requirements, to
  • Ensure legal compliance and adherence to quality standards.
Qualifications You Must Have
  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 2 years of prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field
Qualifications We Prefer
  • A thorough understanding of lean manufacturing principles.
  • Intermediate user of MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). MS Project experience a plus.
  • Ability to work independently and with small teams.
  • Machining and/or assembly experience including fixture design, tooling design and Geometric Dimensioning/Tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Experience with special processes including vacuum brazing, heat treat, TIG/laser welding and EDM.
  • Experience with 3D printing for tools and/or fixtures.
  • SAP experience is a plus.
  • Design modeling experience (SolidWorks preferred).

The salary range for this role is 68,900 USD - 131,100 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels.
