Job summary

Daikin Applied is seeking a Manufacturing Engineer II for its Staunton, VA facility. You will support continuous improvement, analyze work samples to set labor standards, and collaborate with cross-functional teams on process improvements and safety initiatives.

Ideal candidates hold a bachelor’s degree in industrial technology/manufacturing engineering with 2–4 years of experience, and have skills in SolidWorks, AutoCAD 2D, MS Office, MS Project, and Minitab.

  • 2-4 years of experience in manufacturing engineering.
  • Experience with lean manufacturing and kaizen techniques.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in continuous improvement and cost reductions with manufacturing leadership.
  • Use work measurement tools to set labor standards and estimate production times and staffing.
  • Analyze workforce utilization, facility layout, workflow; apply lean principles and lead kaizen events.
  • Recommend methods to improve worker safety and quality while reducing costs.
  • Develop work instructions, training checklists, and safety/ergonomics improvements with Safety Manager.
  • Support NPI teams with PFMEA, process flows, and tool/fixture design."
  • Provide equipment specs, solicit quotes, and oversee capital equipment investments.
  • Lead JSK evaluations for hourly personnel and apply lean tools like PDCA and 5S.

Location: Staunton, VA - In-Office

Your Responsibilities
  • Participate in continuous improvement and cost reductions by providing support for the management team using manufacturing engineering technical expertise and working collaboratively on manufacturing processes as a team lead or team member
  • Utilize work measurement tools to analyze work samples to develop standards for labor utilization and estimate production times, staffing requirements, and related costs to provide information for management decisions
  • Analyze operational data like work force utilization, facility layout, workflow, and apply lean manufacturing principles to optimize equipment and workspace effectiveness, actively participating in and occasionally leading kaizen for continuous improvement
  • Recommend methods for worker effectiveness, safety, and quality while minimizing costs through job duty restrictions, workflow optimization according to PDS principles, and equipment management
  • Collaborate with management to develop work instructions, training checklists, matrices, and in partnership with Safety Manager enhance safety procedures and ergonomics in manufacturing
  • Facilitate manufacturability in new product development by collaborating with cross-functional design teams, defining production processes, estimating costs, and offering manufacturing support to NPI teams such as PFMEA, process flow changes, tool/fixture designs
  • Provide equipment design specifications, solicit quotes, and recommend equipment purchases for process enhancement
  • Assess capital equipment investment options, provide purchase recommendations, prepare funding requests for small and medium-sized capital projects, and oversee project completion
  • Lead efforts to assure timely and accurate completion of job skill knowledge (JSK) evaluations for hourly personnel
  • Be knowledgeable and proficient in the use of lean tools such as root cause analysis, PDCA, Kaizen, and 5S
  • Other duties as assigned
Your Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in industrial technology, industrial manufacturing engineering, equivalent technical, scientific, or engineering degree, or equivalent experience
  • 2-4 years’ experience
  • Sheet metal fabrication and assembly using state-of-art manufacturing processes including cellular manufacturing and Demand Flow Technology (preferred)
  • SolidWorks, AutoCAD 2D, MS Office, MS Project, Minitab (preferred)

The typical annual base salary for this position ranges from $74,200 to $124,300 in VA. The range displayed represents the pay range for all positions in the job grade which this position falls. Individual base pay will depend on a wide range of factors including your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
