Job summary

Pursuit Aerospace in Malden, MA is seeking an experienced Manufacturing Engineer II to support CNC turning of nickel forgings, nickel castings, and aluminum castings with a programming focus and process optimization.

You will collaborate with an experienced team, develop routings, PFMEAs, and CNC programs using NX CAD/CAM, and drive continuous improvement while ensuring safety and traceability across manufacturing processes.

Qualifications

  • Requires ABET-accredited Mechanical Engineering degree or 8 years of CNC turning programming experience.
  • 3+ years of CNC turning programming experience as a Manufacturing Engineer.
  • 3+ years reading and interpreting GD&T on blueprints and drawings in aerospace or regulated industries.

Responsibilities

  • Determine a sequence of operations for NPI parts and support/improve flow for existing products.
  • Develop CNC programs using machine controls and NX CAD/CAM software.
  • Design tooling solutions and workholding to optimize machining processes.
  • Provide guidance to team members and collaborate with machinists to improve quality and production targets.
  • Gather feedback from machinists and implement improvements for efficiency and process capability.
  • Maintain accurate records of CNC programs, models, fixturing, and tooling for traceability.
  • Ensure adherence to safety procedures and regulations.
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives and Kaizen activities.

Manufacturing Engineer II

Salary Range: $95,000.00 To $125,000.00 Annually

About the Opportunity:

We’re looking for an experienced Manufacturing Engineer Candidate. You will have the opportunity to work with an experienced and highly motivated team. The role will be processed based and will have a focus on programming and supporting CNC Turning of nickel forgings, nickel castings, and aluminum castings

Responsibilities:

  • Manufacturing Engineering:Determine a sequence of operations for NPI parts, support/improve flow for existing products, create and update routings, operation sketches, PFMEAs, perform capacity analysis, evaluate process capabilities and troubleshoot CNC processes
  • CNC Knowledge: Leverage experience with various CNC machines including lathes, milling, EDM and others to support existing products families & NPI, and able to identify/select machine replacements
  • Programming: Develop CNC programs using machine controls and NX CAD/CAM software.
  • Tooling Solutions: Design tooling solutions for material removal (custom tool holders for clearances, special part features) and work holding/fixturing (pie jaws, rings, clamps, covers, etc.) to optimize machining processes and account for part movement.
  • Technical Support: Provide guidance to team members and collaborate with machinists to improve mistake proofing, as well as quality and production targets.
  • Process Optimization: Gather feedback from the machinists and incorporate their feedback to improve existing programs and processes for better efficiency and process capability.
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate records of CNC programs, models, fixturing, and tooling information for traceability.
  • Safety and Compliance: Ensure adherence to safety procedures and regulations.
  • Continuous Improvement: Lead implementation of continuous improvement ideas and participate in Kaizen workshops.
  • Training Support: Identify potential areas where the shop could use more training and document as you go.
  • Problem Solving: Address manufacturing and quality issues using root cause analysis and soft skills.

Required Qualifications:

  • Requires a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar degree at an ABET accredited school, or in absence of a degree, 8 years of relevant CNC turning programming.
  • For candidates with a bachelor’s degree, a minimum 3 years of prior relevant experience in CNC turning programming as a Manufacturing Engineer
  • 3+ years of experience reading and interpreting GD&T on blueprints, process specifications, and technical drawings in Aerospace or comparable regulated Industry.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Requires a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar degree at an ABET accredited school, or in absence of a degree, 8 years of relevant CNC turning programming.
  • For candidates with a bachelor’s degree, a minimum 3 years of prior relevant experience in CNC turning programming as a Manufacturing Engineer
  • Experience with reading and interpreting GD&T on blueprints, process specifications, and technical drawings in Aerospace or comparable regulated Industry.
  • Proficiency in English language, both verbal and written.
  • Mechanical aptitude and ability to interpret blueprints and sketches accurately.

Working Conditions:

  • Requires mobility in a manufacturing plant environment while using Personal Protective Equipment.
  • Must be able to frequently sit, stand and walk.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 15 pounds.
  • Must be able to have prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to travel between locations or to suppliers up to 25% of time.
