Job summary

Qualifications

Manufacturing Engineer I to join our A320 Engineering Department based in Mobile, AL.

Job Summary

Responsible for the manufacturing assessment of non‑conformities, late changes to support production, and supporting and identifying continuous improvement opportunities for the manufacturing process. Responds to technical questions and explains work orders/drawings, especially for aircraft mechanical related items. Establishes and maintains effective communications with FAL production and serves as interface to the on‑site back office for work order adaptation.

Our Engineers at the Airbus U.S. Manufacturing facility take our aircraft from concept to customer delivery – working with production teams on every aspect of assembly from managing technical information, quality control, maintenance tasks and health & safety – along flowlines and flightlines. The facility is located on ‘Airbus Way’ at the Mobile Aeroplex at Brookley. Since 2015 it has produced A320 Family aircraft and added a second product line for the A220 in 2019. It supports the U.S. aerospace industry and advances Airbus’ global competitiveness.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Handle Non‑Conformities (50%)
    • Create specific work orders for FAL rework (Cabin, Systems, Electrics, or Structures by Station) and verify the technical content of non‑conformities.
    • Provide technical support to production on all issues, including oversight of directed changes.
    • Incorporate implicit knowledge into work instructions and refine them in terms of language, level of detail, and regulation assignment.
    • Initiate availability of replacement parts, jigs, and tools required for work.
  • Continuous Improvement (50%)
    • Manage continuous improvement measures with recurring non‑conformities in cooperation with quality.
    • Participate as an active team member to support ME activities in the FAL.
  • Additional Responsibilities
    • Support completion of the routing verification process (RVP) for new or updated processes.
    • Participate in mandatory training plans, provide orientation support to new colleagues and trainees.
    • Engage in additional projects as assigned and other duties as assigned.
Your Boarding Pass
  • Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or Engineering Technology or equivalent experience.
  • 0–3 years of experience in Aerospace, preferably on an Aerospace Final Assembly Line.
  • Travel required: 5% domestic and international.
Requirements
  • Knowledge of manufacturing engineering principles, practices, methods, and tools.
  • Knowledge of supply chain and quality system management.
  • Knowledge of non‑conformities and design query notes.
  • Ability to establish and maintain good relationships with all internal customers.
  • Ability to work in an international team.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to present clear and concise briefings and reports to customers and executives.
  • Fluency in German or French (preferred).
  • Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Google Suite (Gmail, Sheets, Docs).
  • Ability to work autonomously on own scope of work and request support when required.
  • Practical decision making in a predefined context.
  • Ability to work on 1st, 2nd, or 3rd shift schedules.
  • Support production needs for completion of aircraft milestones.
  • Communicate with international colleagues to solve problems as they arise.
  • Planning with multifunctional teams across the organization.
  • Primary internal audience: Manufacturing Engineering, Production, Quality & Logistics.
Preferred
  • Knowledge of Airbus Industries mechanical processes & methods.
  • Knowledge of Airbus IT‑Tools (Zamiz, TAKSY, DocMaster, ECM).
  • Knowledge of SAP/R3 (Module PP/PM).
  • Knowledge of aircraft structure installation.
  • Knowledge of rules for aircraft design and manufacturing.
  • Knowledge of health, safety and environmental regulations and practices.
  • Knowledge of Airbus Industries electrical processes & methods.
  • Knowledge of Airbus IT‑Tools (Airina, TAKSY, DOcMaster).
  • Ability to work autonomously and request support as needed.
  • Ability to make decisions within a predefined scope context.
  • Ability to work on 1st, 2nd, or 3rd shift schedules.
  • Support production needs for completion of aircraft milestones.
Physical Requirements
  • Onsite: 100% onsite.
  • Vision: Able to read computer screens, documents, and engineering drawings.
  • Hearing: Able to hear conversations and alarms on the production floor.
  • Speaking: Able to speak in conversations, meetings, and deliver information.
  • Equipment Operation: Operate most office and electronic equipment and some production tools.
  • Carrying & Lifting: Able to carry and lift documents, tools, drawings, and equipment up to 30 lbs (14 kg).
  • Pushing/Pulling: Able to push and pull small office furniture and equipment.
  • Sitting, Standing, Squatting/Kneeling: Capable of prolonged sitting or standing, and kneeling for low shelving access.
  • Travel: Able to travel independently and on short notice, potentially internationally.
  • Walking: Able to walk through office and production areas, including uneven surfaces.
  • Personal Protective Equipment: Required PPE includes safety shoes, glasses, hearing protection, respirators/masks, and protective gloves as required by site or customer site.
  • Administrative Position Exercises: Steel‑toed shoes required for all shop floor visits.
