Job summary

Ducommun, Inc. in Carson, CA is seeking a Manufacturing Engineer I to determine manufacturing methods and processes for company products, leveraging lean, six sigma, and time studies to reduce waste.

The role supports cross functional teams, designs processes and layouts, and provides tooling design, training, and time studies. Growing candidates with hands-on manufacturing experience preferred.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in mechanical/industrial/manufacturing engineering or related field.
0–3 years' experience in a production environment, preferably electromechanical, aerospace, and industrial.
Basic understanding of Six Sigma and Lean Manufacturing concepts.
Experience leading cross-functional teams on projects is a plus.
Knowledge of manufacturing and assembly processes with work measurement and standards.
Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
CAD/CAM software experience (AutoCAD, Mechanical Desktop, Inventor, Gibbs) is a plus.
Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio).
ERP system knowledge desired but not mandatory.
Ability to work independently with good judgement.

Responsibilities

Support continuous improvement projects using lean and six sigma tools.
Support cross functional teams on RCCA activities on CARs and DMRs.
Design manufacturing processes, work instructions and production layouts for assemblies, equipment installation, and material handling.
Support tooling and fixture design, testing and validation.
Support production operations and personnel on technical issues.
Support NPI teams with development of manufacturing processes and procedures for new products.
Create and update routing information (cycle times, notes, etc.).
Train production personnel on the proper use and execution of tools, processes, and procedures.
Conduct process audits and time studies.
Communicate with vendors and suppliers on projects on technical issues as required.
Other assignments as required.

Manufacturing Engineer I

Engineers in this general category are concerned with determining
the optimal manufacturing methods and process for producing company products.
Understanding of lean improvement methodology, ergonomics, time studies for
reducing waste and excess, line balancing, 6S, Kaizens, etc.

Radio Frequency (RF) product lines.

Job Summary

Support

Required Skills and Qualifications

Working knowledge of acrylic machining, painting processes, and
assembly tooling.
Ability to read, write, analyze, and interpret blueprints,
manufacturing plans, specifications and purchase orders, professional journals,
technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
Ability to effectively
present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients,
customers.
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw
valid conclusions.
Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical
instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and
concrete variables.
Ability to contribute/participate on cross-functional,
problem-solving teams.
Computer skills: Microsoft Office; Excel and Word.
Working knowledge of an ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) System desired but not mandatory.
Ability to
work independently, with a higher level of judgment making skills.

Required Experience and Education

Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical, Industrial, or Manufacturing Engineering or
Related Engineering Field.
0-3 years' experience in a production environment, preferably with electromechanical, aerospace, and industrial applications.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills
