Hanwha Materials – Savannah Operations, a heavy industrial forging plant in Midway, Georgia, seeks a Mechanical Engineer to own critical manufacturing processes and support aerospace component production. You will drive improvements, track FPY and SPC, and lead RCCA analyses to resolve issues.

The role requires a degree in a technical field and at least three years in manufacturing, with proficiency in MS Office, ERP/QMS systems, and experience with 3D CAD tooling.

Job description

Our Hanwha Materials – Savannah Operations is a heavy industrial Forging manufacturing plant located in Midway, Georgia. We employ approximately 190 and are poised for growth. We have an immediate opening for a dynamic Mechanical Engineer to support our upward business.

SUMMARY:

Under limited direction, has technical ownership of assigned processes, tasks, and projects that manufacture products for various customers while supporting Hanwha Materials to achieve established production and financial targets.

Develop, modify, improve, and troubleshoot the processes associated with the manufacture of critical aerospace components in closed-die forging operations.

  • Track performance of processes for specific products and materials as they relate to the plant’s First Pass Yield (FPY) targets
  • Track SPC and execute targeted projects
  • Perform root cause corrective action (RCCA) analyses to eliminate special case and/or systemic process issues
  • Develop related process engineering projects and execute with high level of proficiency
  • Project focus may include manual data entry elimination (automation), process data manipulation tools (report building), capacity optimization, part verification (gage design, touchless inspection, etc.)
  • Manage project budgetary constraints and propose capital expense reports with justifications where needed
  • Initiate and control cost reduction projects to achieve targets established by the business unit
  • Use 3D CAD software to design and develop gauges, templates, and other tooling to support machining operations.
  • Support existing processes and design new processes where necessary
  • Develop, review, and maintain work instructions and technical guides for Operations and Engineering in accordance with document control requirements.
  • Support Hot Shop Engineering daily with process support and recovery plans where needed
  • Manage and disposition Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs) throughout the hot shop manufacturing process.

Language Skills:

The candidate must possess excellent communication skills. They must read, analyze, and interpret complex documents. They must write clear and concise technical reports. They can break down complex concepts or controversial topics and present them to diverse audiences.

Mathematical Skills:

The candidate possesses the ability to perform math supporting engineering decisions and projects. They must interpret graphs, tables, charts, and analyze temperature data. Gantt charts are typically used for project scheduling.

Reasoning Ability:

The candidate must apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. They must deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

Computer Skills:

Proficiency with Microsoft Office is required. Working knowledge of ERP and QMS systems is a plus.

Certifications, Licenses, Registrations:

Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt preferred.

Qualifications for Candidates:
  • Bachelor’s degree in a technical field (Engineering, IT, Design, or related field of study) from an accredited institution.
  • A minimum of three years of experience in manufacturing
  • Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verificaiton of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
  • This position is subject to International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) which requires U.S. person status. ITAR defines U.S. person as a U.S. Citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident (i.e. ‘Green Card Holder’), Politicial Asylee, or Refugee. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • 1 year or more experience in Aerospace forging of titanium and/or nickel-based superalloys, other metalworking, or processing of steels
  • 1 year or more experience working knowledge of Quality systems and specifications
  • 1 year or more project management experience
  • Blackbelt or Greenbelt certification preferred
